My wife joined TWF, and whats to learn to ride.

it's weird she didn't want to learn to ride just sit on the back now after reading TWF and seeing what the ladies have to say and that there are hott girls who ride she wants to learn and eventually get her own bike.

People tell me to slow down... I tell them I'll die with a smile.

Go ahead and throw her in the MSF. She will get to learn how to ride on someone else's bike and decide if it is right for her or not and get a discount on insurance. You can't beat it.

Yup, long before even thinking of getting her a bike, have her take the class, and make sure it's something she's really interested in. (chances are, she'll have a BLAST at the class, and she'll be every bit as addicted as you are )

Bad idea, the MSF instructors have gone through a lot of education to teach individuals how to ride. I think significant others trying to help usually just creates tension. Plus, with you around it would make her tense and try to perform better in front of you. It is a more relaxing environment if you are just screwing up in front of strangers.

Dagnabbit, twice in one day I'm agreeing with you?

Again, he knows of what he speaks... she'll enjoy herself MUCH more without you there, she'll be less-stressed, and she'll learn more.

I can't emphasize enough how much MSF coaches prefer students to come in with NO practice/prior 'coaching', etc... so they don't have to untrain any bad habits.

LOL, I will agree with you here. Guys I knew that ride told me one thing before I took it. Don't practice, don't read anything on the internet about riding, basically don't try to learn anything before you go into MSF. Let the class teach you everything, there will be a time to pick up tips, but learn the basics in the course under coaches that can spot problems. Oh if she is wanting to get a sportbike, tell her to ask the coaches if she can ride a dual sport or something similar instead of the normal cruisers they make you ride. It will be an easier transition.

Mine kept yelling to put 4 fingers on the brake. Even when it was obvious that made my riding worse. I can't help it- too many years with my controls set up to fit me. Anyway- make sure she listens to the coaches. They probably know their training bikes better than anyone.

And have her post a noob thread, or at least in the "official newb thread"

Yeah, MSF teaches you basics, not advanced sport riding techniques. I use at most two fingers to break, one finger most of the time, thanks to how powerful the cbr's brakes are.

It's going on to May 15th. She has to have 25 posts when she enters, not you but she has to post them and 40 posts when the contest is going on. It's all explained in the contest post.
