A blast came to a stop at a stop sign out on the street where i live. A john deere riding mower was mowing the grass not to far away. I SWEAR the blast sounded EXACTLY the same as that lawn mower when it rode if. I wouldnt be caught dead riding that thing. Im not joking about this at all but it is funny. I seriously couldnt tell the difference.

Hahaha. True. I blame Harley for that.

Melina, I'm 5'3" and have a blast also. I like it because it's small but I think that if you wanted to move up to something else you could do it. Eventually, you will get used to not much of your foot on the ground. At least, this is how I am on my dirt bikes (they are much taller than sport bikes for the most part). You can lower bikes for a decent price sometimes, I'm assuming the dealer told you it would be 600 dollars because that seems crazy to me. Let me know if you have any questions about that since I am kind of in the same position as you I would be happy to tell you what I know.

You just wouldn't be able to hear mine over the mower!
But that stock exhaust is starting to sound pretty good (deeper) with more heat cycles on it.

I've rode a Blast. They are fun as hell. They sound like go carts. But I'd absolutely ride one. Maximum fun.

ANd for lowering...about 20 bucks and your done. Get a lowering link off ebay and drop the forks a bit in the triple clamps and your done. Should take you all of about a half hour to do it to. $600? Whoever told you that is your enemy. I'll do it for $400.

For me, that's not nearly enough. I have accepted the fact that I can not ride sport bikes because of the height.

A friend's wife started riding a Gs450 a year and a half ago...same height as you...went to a Duc Monster 750 w a lowering link (about 80 bucks). She also started racing YSR50's at Beaverrun in Ohio this year and is leading the series by 90 points (beating her husband who has been racing for years). I rode with them back in June, and she sets a healthy pace. You do not have to limit yourself. Careful selection and a few mods and you too can sportbike it. May I suggest that you may want to look at the older ZX7R's and ZX9R's. Kirsten (the young lady I mentioned) rode mine with no mods, and said that if she lowered it a 1/2 inch she could flat foot it. Excellent examples abound.

Photo below shows her at the last race she won....

$600-- Lowering links only cost $110 and its not that hard to install- so they are trying to get you on the labor... You shoulda checked somewhere else...
EAlthough I would lower more power, the ninja 250 is a great starter bike, hold value and can be sold pretty quickly... and my favorite part is that it is very forgiving!!! I have dropped my bike 5 times in the first two months I owned it and I only had to buy a clutch lever ($20) and a light post thingee ($20)... And another plus is that you can remove the plastics while you are learning!!!

I really do love the ninja 250!!

Short Riders Who Own Blasts!

Stick with Buell... XB12Scg... I met a lady who bought one right after I bought my bike... She couldn't have been more than 5'1", but I didn't ask. She had no problems with it. Also, factory lower so handling isn't compromised (so they say).
