While it may be fun, I don't think it transfers that well to the road. Only thing you might be able to pick up better lines to run. I say this because after kart racing I seem to do better at car race games. However, that is applying real knowledge to a video game and not video game knowledge to real life . Course the damn games always cheat and whoever is in last place seems to get a wicked power boost to slingshot past you at the last moment.
Yea um about that.....playing the video game is really nothing like riding the bike for real, I mean you don't steer a bike with a freakin joy stick...
No the best way to get a better handle on your bike is saddle time, bottom line.
I've played the game as well....it's not going to do anything for your actual skill.....I mean maybe if it was fully interactive...meaning you have a bike in your living room that is linked to the xbox and you can lean and change gears and use the throttle, braking etc...it might help a little bit, but just sitting on the couch watching how the bike is handled is not going to do you any good. You have to ride to get better, and ride with people that are a bit better than you, let them give you tips and pointers on what you could do differently.
The only thing that playing a video game will aid you with is hand - eye coordination... and that's about it. If you want to get better at handling your bike... Get out there on the road and rack up some real miles...
:iagree:
I'm pretty sure its been shown that video games increases your handeye coordination and reaction time. which is useful... but I'd rather spend time in the saddle.
Professional racers play video games because some of these games have authentic track layouts so that they can at least learn how the track looks like before they go there for racing.
But playing game isn't going to give you the feedbacks that you need to ride. How are you going to feel if your bike's braking threshold is approaching? Can you feel the front end wobbling? Can you feel the rear end weave? Can you feel the throttle causing the bike to tighten up or run wide? How much more should you hang off in order to make that corner?
I have a couple friends who play videogames, several of them have never ridden a motorcylcle and play that game non-stop.
When I watched them play motogp (not sure what edition) it was saying they were breaking lap records on a bunch of big name tracks like mugello and assen.
So I'm gonna say they don't do jack to improve your riding other than increasing course knowledge as previously stated.
