Have you thought about learning to ride on an enduro type bike like a xr 100 or so and just learn all about it on the trails and out in the woods to give you pleanty of time to get used just to riding and then going to a street bike?

I learned to ride on a CBR 600. Not saying you should do that but if you go smaller then that I just don't recommend that you buy it new, only b/c you won't be too upset if you lay it down and you won't have that hesitancy when you ride it. (It's like a new car). Not only that you will out-grow it within no time.

Yep .. have to agree!!
I started on a little 250 Ninja .. great bike for me .. but the first season I dropped that dang bike like FOUR times!! Gotta say though .. it wore like STEEL Be sure what ever bike you choose to start on ... you feel comfortable with! Good Luck to all you first time riders ... be safe and have fun! It's Spring and Time to Rock N Roll!!
