Putting a foot down on the track

I have noticed that a few of the moto gp guy put thier foot out in some of the corners. It also seems to be only the left foot. My friends and I have wondered about this. Have asked a few racers, but no one can give an answer.

ive had it explained that its simply getting their foot out without accidental shifts. kick it out sideways instead of pullling up and out. usually happens after all the down shifting, braking and when its time to get on the gas. Remember that they run reverse shift patters so downshifting is done with toes under the shifter.
