Talking My very first track day

So yeah the day before my first track day, murphy hits in full force. The pickup gets stuck, nothing fits, I keep forgetting sh8t, and stayed up till the wee hours in the morning cause my friend and I were talking about all sorts of crap. So the day comes, and I'm full of energy with my whole tree hours of sleep, and were on our way. So we get there, only a couple of bikes, to my surprise... ALL OF THEM RACING BIKES, so im the only one there with taped up lights and street tires, everybody else is on slicks and the whole nine yards. I get assinged a full on racer to be my "wingman" for the first 3 laps to show me around the track, the line and all the little nit picks and tricks around it. So after that, everybody else has already taken off in full force, and i'm just riding my ride, next thing I know the session is over and NO ONE LAPPED ME. This is a 1.5 mile course and no one on their full racing bikes lapped me, when we got back to the pits, I was filled with praise on how good I did, etc etc etc, now for next month they want to invite me TO RACE with them in the Ponce Grand Prix. Needless to say I want to, only hoping that the budget will allow it, need all sorts of new stuff, IE, racing tires, tire warmers, suspension worked on, PCIII, , new brake master CYLINDER...CAUSE MINE GAVE OUT ON THE THIRD TO FOURTH LAP OF EACH SESSION, BRAKE FADE LIKE A MUTHAFUGGA, I had to use the run off area of turn nine going at a nice clip...PUCKER FACTOR WENT UP EXPONENTIALLY 100%, new brake pads, bleed the lines again, and last but not least a trailer in which to carry my newfound track weapon... I mean I was keeping up with race bikes and full on racers, on my everyday ride, so maybe things will turn out ok for me. And hopefully I'll be a motorcycle racer by next year... Iknow thread worthless w/o pics right, well I hace about 200 with like 7 vids. dont know how to do it but will find out, ill get back to y'all on this...promise.

Here's three photos, more on the way:

Good deal. Welcome to the addiction now. Just because people are on bikes with track plastics and slicks doesn't mean their fast. Did you pass anyone? How many people were on the track at once? Get the SS lines and flush & fill with new fluid. You shouldn't get fade again. What kind of tires do you have on your ride?

Nope didn't pass ne one, there were 8 of us total, that's it, I have them on and I did, I think it's way too wore out pads, and the fluid is overdue, cooked, and I'm riding bridgeslips.

Still held my own out there...they really are fast as fu*k but I just put all the basics down and smooth turned into fast with almost no effort. BTW Ididnt have any strips before, but now they are long long long gone.

I have a question regarding my brake fade, will a warped rotor, causing the brakes to wobble when breaking down from race track speeds cause this fading, I checked my pads and they are in decent shape so now IDK WTF I have to do to prevent this...I do know that it was wobbling alot when breaking maybe all this will be prevented with new rotors ...please help me feed my addiction...BTW my rotors are still blue from the heat of saturday's track day. thanx...

If it doesn't do it under normal braking, then they're not warped. Flush and fill your fluid.

I got the advantage of just being 8 of us total, and my "wingman" is a professional racer sponsored by Honda, so I followed his lines and eventually made my own line and stuck to it. Like I said before stick to the basics and smooth will become fast before u even know it... ALSO tape up your speedo, that way you wont freak when coming to the braking markers hauling MAYOR ASS!!! If u take care of ur bike it'll take care of u guarandamnteed!

Out of all the track days I've been too. Only two had less than twenty riders. Both were split into novice and expert. With about ten riders in each group. I had the most fun on those days. Less traffic and less newbie's as they all stayed in the novice group.
Glad you had fun but don't expect to many more of those days when hardly nobody shows up.

Submit your ride for the TWF Bike of the Month here

Currently ride 1987 GSXR 50, 1996 Ducati M900, 2005 GSXR 1000

The thing is...hardly nebody here in PR rides track...everybody loves the strip but when it comes down to taking a line a looking through a turn...most would end up in pretzel alley. Damn near 85-90% of all bikes down here are slammed and stretched. Plus its harder to join the club than what I had originally thought...They literally screened me while I was on the track, then the president of the organization personally gives you the yay or nay...me I got a yay and was asked if I wanted to race in Nov GP race. Now I just have to prep the bike for that event, and myself too.

so i gotta ask....(laugh all you want) would it be possible/a good idea for me to go to a track day w/ my rebel? Drewpy keeps telling me it'd be a good idea, but i'm not so sure since i keep reading that there's a lot of ppl and it seems to be mostly sport bikes that are going to be going much faster than i am. Just looking for a lil feedback

My buddy and I are prepping his Virago 250 to ride the track, not luaghing BTW...GO FOR IT!!!!!! Well u might need a few things before u go, cause were turning his cruiser into a Café Racer, gonna modify it with rearsets, clipons underbody exhaust...remember this is a CRUISER, so it has forward controls that touch down real easy. But by all means join the addiction, who cares if everybody is faster than you are...just remember once you pick a line hold it dont weave all around the track and everybody that's faster is supposed to find a line around you , so HELL FUC*ING YES GO FOR IT!!!!!!

That's cool, must be nice to have a pro as a "wingman". Good way to learn fast. Taping the speedo is something that I usually do. And I agree, smooth before fast!

Everybody was so helpful and happy to see a new face around, it's something I believe is rarely seen in this day and age. And its been a wonderful experience so far.

They're too short and too far away. Bad angles.
