CBR 1000 steering damper ???

Could this damper be removed to install a handle bar conversion kit? I want a sport tourer and I'm thinking about converting a sport bike to a tourer.

Example:

IDK why you would want to take of something that actually works well. Just get some Heli bars and be done with it.

Heli bars aren't going to put me where I want to be. Is the 1000 uncontrollable with out the damper?

YES! its bad enough to get a tank slapper skating the wheel at 30 to 80mph with a 6 and around 100hp. Its deadly on the bigger bikes.

Honda put those on there from the factory for a reason and in typical Honda fashion. They made a great one that works better than the average. If you do change it up. I would defiantly recommend replacing it with something that will work with what ever set up you go with.
