Carburetor options?

Are there ANY, and I do mean any carburetors available that are more modern/common that will work for the CB550F?
I really have had it with the ones I've got. they are leaking, broken, and IMPOSSIBLE to synchronize. at this point, its not worth repairing them, when I could probably find something more modern like CVK or CR carbs that will fit and work better.

Mikuni Smoothbore carbs were the aftermarket carbs to have in the late 70's and early 80's. But they are difficult to find and super expensive. If, and that is a big if, you can find a modern Constant Velocity carb that actually can fit the bore diameter and carb spacing of your cylinder head, the jetting will be way off.

I would try and get your original carbs repaired, or get some off ebay for your bike or perhaps the CB750. Carb rebuild kits are not known for high quality. The parts that move and wear the most are the float needles. Most kits contain a brass needle. The original is a viton tip, which actually seals.

I just ordered new float needle/seats for the Mikuni's on my Suzuki. At [email protected], that's $80 just for the viton tips, but worth it. I'm sure the Keihin carbs on your CB need viton tip needles. Then you can accurately set the float height. Your idle jets have to be absolutely clean, as do all the passageways, especially behind the mixture screw.
