military vehicles

After the slight derailment of the diesel thread over in the tech forum, I decided to start this thread so y'all can dedicate it to discussing the new military vehicles. those diesel bikes sound cool.. I'm informed that the deuce and 5 ton trucks are being replaced by cabover trucks that are 1 axle 2.5 ton 2 axles 5 ton trucks. its got me wondering what will eventually replace the HMMWV if anything even CAN.

these are on the MILD side of the military truck spectrum. for the BIG side of it, these are some fun toys.

see 10 ton truck like an M123A1C Note the MASSIVE ground clearance. this beast rides on 11.00x24 tires, the example below is without winch, but the cargo one, which is quite rare has a winch. I'd imagine the winch on this truck is rated to around 60k pounds or somewhere around that, considering the beastly size of the truck I wouldnt be surprised if it were actually higher than that.

life is but a way of killing time until you die. why care how you live, just have fun while you can.

Here is a front shot of an LMTV that is the replacement for the Duce. It seats three, and comes bob tailed or as a cargo/personel carrier. The 5-ton is almost the same (better suspension) called an FMTV. Hydraulics to raise the cab and service the engine. about the only thing you can do with the cab down is check oil.

At least for us, the Marines, we have a 7ton, also a cargo, personnel carrier, much more adept to todays changing scenarios, IE the war in Irak, those things can take a hit. Also I read, while I was out there, about the new replacement for the HMMWV, I personally dont like it, thats why I dont know the name. Hummvees took me to and from where we had to go, in my eyes, they rule the roost.

You're not kidding, we were stationed at the main LSA, and saw alot of the wreckage as it was towed back in. One of these type of vehicles, I'm not sure if it was a 2.5, 5, or 7 ton, had recevied the replacement level II uparmored Cab instead of the plates. It got nailed by an Road Side IED. Cab sheared off of the frame and engine, but the interior of the cab was fine. Everybody had their seatbelts on, and came out with nothing but bruises.

if you think you've been in a bumpy car...youve seen nothing till you have ridden in a 5 ton.

The army also has the stryker vehicle...but it is not intended to replace the humvee's, but they also have an up-armored humvee
