Depends on where you plan using.

If for riding / joggin or short distances I'd get a 512 shuffle or an iriver jump drive player. Those I know are both great. Never used but the SanDisk - Sansa c140 is on sale at best buy now.

Other then that can't advise on much other then a ipod video.

ebay!
I have an Mpio but I hate it due to the fact I need to use software to load music on the player... I wish it just recognized it as a new drive on the computer and I could drag and drop the music file to it.

I got something through Tiger Direct... was only like $40.. uses thumb drives for music storage. Its fine for the bike or car, but the headphone jack is starting to get a loose connection. I only notice it when running. I bought it in Iraq, where I expected the heat and dust to total it. Since it still works. It is an acceptable cheap alternative.

Here is the SD chip version for less than $40 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...lance&n=172282

And here is the thumb drive version, with a 512M jump drive for $60. http://www.adorama.com/ILXJGMP3S512.html

I use the 512 for my computer files, and bought a 1 Gig for my music. You can have multiple drives for either player. I have one with the classical / broadway playlist, and anothe for running, etc.
