There are 2 sides of this story in which I am torn. If the initiation of the "English Only" language as our national language is done for good and moral causes than I am all for it. FOr example, if people want to enact it to preserve our common language and avoid ethnic strife or to impose a sense of national unity and civic responsibility, then I am all for it.
But if the reasoning that people have for making it the national language is to fan animosity toward immigrants and build support for tighter quotas or bigots seeking to roll back civil rights advances for language-minority groups than I am totally against it. Another one reason that I would be against it is if Americans feel threatened by diversity, among other unsetting changes. We need to diversify this country like our four fathers were doing.
So in turn, I am tossed on this subject.
