Commuting Fun

So I'm about to leave work for the day and make my 130+ mile commute back home. It's all highway so no fun Today is my first time trying this commute and the ride in wasn't too bad, I just found cages that were in a hurry at about 85-90 and sorta drafted them to avoid LEOs (I saw 4) and keep my mpg around 50, drafting also makes the ride a bit quieter and calmer since I'm just cruising in their slip-stream. The ride home won't be fun; it's raining . I'm not scared of riding in the rain, I know to respect the road conditions and not push the limits, but 130 miles in the rain will just be no fun at all! Well I'm off to rain-x my face shield and then hit the road, wish me luck!

You should look into buying a cruise control deal. I have one and it works awesome. I don't use it anymore because it interferes with the twisties, but when I was on the highway, I loved having it. iT WAS ONLY LIKE 25 bucks. it felt so nice to be able to take my right hand off and use my left hand, or no hands.

Yeah the guy I ride with has one on his FJR, sweet deal.

Here's the model he has, and it is compatible with All SVS model years.

He explained it if you read the other page... he just moved this weekend for Grad school, and he's got an amazing job and employer willing to work with him, so until he finds a closer gravey train he'll be riding back and forth.

But that's like 20 hours a week on the road...How can you concentrate on studies after spending 4 hours a day commuting??

Once classes start next week, he'll only be working 2 or 3 days a week depending on his class load, when he works, he'll drive, but the days he has a class he'll stay at school and do the work and study. This is the only week it's an everyday thing.

Little update for ya'll.
My commute last night was officially the most miserable and unsafe ride I've ever had. I HAD to be back in Ann Arbor by 6:00 and I left Grand Rapids at 4:00 (on a normal day I can do the commute in about 1:40) so I didn't have much of a time buffer. As I mentioned it was raining and humid so about 10 minutes into the ride I noticed condensation forming on my face shield despite having my breath guard in and breathing through my nose to reduce the moisture of each breath. About 25 minutes into the ride my front side was completely soaked and I had to pee but had no time to stop, by about 45 minutes into the ride I was flipping my visor up about every 5 minutes because of the heavy fogging that was happening on the inside of my visor and I could only see about vehicles that were about 35 feet in front of me. 1 hour into the ride I could tell that my boots were full of water because my feet were completely submerged, also I started shivering uncontrollably cuz I was so damn cold. At this point I knew if I stopped to pee I might not be able to get back on my bike so I just had to keep going. Then I hit traffic and speeds dropped to about 35 mph for about 20 minutes, not good. Well when I rolled into my driveway in Ann Arbor and looked at my watch (no clock on the SV) it was 6:05 and I was about to be late. Thank God my wife had left the cage for me to take into town. So I put fans on my leathers and made it to the 6:30 meeting that I had. As of this morning my leathers were still damp with the fans on them and it was still raining so I dropped my wife off at school and took the cage to work. So here I am.
