Capture Video from DVD?

I have a long DVD from last weekend's track day where I make a few brief appearances. Short of buying a video editing software package, can anyone tell me how I can capture a clip or two from the DVD? Is there any freeware or 30-day trial download that let's me do that?

I'm still trying to get my old software to work and may be in the market for some new software.

Yeah, I figured as much. Oh well, I thought if there was an easy way to grab the highlights then I would post it. Not gonna post 80 minutes of lapping.
