Everyone wants us gone, but us!

Iraqi youth want U.S. troops to withdraw

WASHINGTON - Majorities of Iraqi youth in Arab regions of the country believe security would improve and violence decrease if the U.S.-led forces left immediately, according to a State Department poll that provides a window into the grim warnings provided to policymakers.

The survey unclassified, but marked "For Official Government Use Only" also finds that Iraqi leaders may face particular difficulty recruiting young Sunni Arabs to join the stumbling security forces. Strong majorities of 15- to 29-year-olds in two Arab Sunni areas Mosul and Tikrit-Baquba would oppose joining the Iraqi army or police.

The poll has its shortcomings; regional samples are small and the results do not say how many people refused to respond to questions. The private polling firm hired by the State Department also was not able to interview residents of al-Anbar, a Sunni-dominated province and an insurgent stronghold.

But the findings of the summer survey circulated to policymakers last month and obtained by The Associated Press last week nevertheless provide a solemn reminder of the difficulty that the U.S.-backed Iraqi government faces as it tries to add ethnic diversity to its security institutions.

Didn't Bush say that he wouldn't withdraw, even if his wife and dog were the only ones supporting him?

i think (im not a political person so this is not a debate its a view point) that we should leave, what good are we doing there? so what if there are mines over there? the ppl are putting them down to blow us up, so leave them there and natural selection take its place( no pun intended about having a over grown monkey run our country now))! i support the troops, i just dont support why they are there anymore, get'em back

everybody get out and vote on nov. 7th so we can swing the congress a different direction for once. maybe we can pressure the president to change his policy on things that way.

Not anymore, everyone else in the world would rather have us not keep trying (and failing) to finish what we never should have started. Don't get me wrong, I support our troops 100%. But now North Korea has the a-bomb (and can hit the USA) and we're stretched so thin in Iraq (who was harmless to us in the first place i.e. no WMD's) that we can't even respond to the real threats in the world.

hmm, i totally support the troops and the pres, even if I dont always agree with him, but even from almost the beginning I have been of the opinion that we should just let them kill themselves, i mean really, thats all they want to do anyway isnt it??

or let someone push the big red button, wipe'em all out and start over...hhhmmm, not realistic I know, but come on, give me a break already, they are so unenlightened and backwards..."oh, you dont agree with me, let me kill your bro in law, blah blah..."

American lives should not be lost to protect people who won't step up and protect themselves.

Did we? Or did we elect what they said they'd be?

I wasn't going to wade into this, but I can no longer resist...

I think it's time to start planning to pull out... The thing is, we need the support of the people to pull out... if they aren't supporting us, then some other ruthless dictator will rise into power and things will be just as bad, if not worse, as they were under Saddam... That's what the people over there, and here, are failing to understand... We pull out... things will only get worse, unless people step up to try to fix the situation internally...

We don't know for sure that Korea has a nuke... The only proof we have is the claims Jong Il is making... None of which have been substantiated...

Now to the WMD's, or lack thereof in Iraq... Unfortunately there is no way of knowing what Saddam had or did not have due to the ineptitude of the UN. First we give them a schedule of what/when/where they wanted to look, then when we finally send our boy Blix in there, all he gets is the runaround... 'no Mr. Blix, you need to come back to this warehouse next month... go here...' 1 month later... 'ok Mr. Blix, you can come in here now... but we still won't show you this room... come back next month...' If Saddam would have gave the green light to really take a hard look at what we wanted, when we wanted to... The war would have never happened... or it would have happened with WMD's (or something else very very bad) in our pocket as a trump card to show the world... We called Saddam's bluff... he thought we wouldn't invade, but just in case we gave him 6+ months from our promise, till we actually stepped into Iraq... Can anyone reasonably tell me that a government with millions and millions of dollars in shoeboxes couldn't hide a small weapons program with 6+ months of preparation? They could have moved everything out and cleaned everything up within that time... Hell, they could have had camels drag everything to Syria within that timeframe!

I guess we could have made more sanctions against Saddam... Those were real effective... If our goal was hurting Iraqi civilians...

True Dat... It's a catch 22 though... We pull out, Iraq gets worse... Then we are blamed for going in there anyway...

IMO.. there are things the govt does, that i dont care to know..
usurping Sodimize Insane shouldve been done in a quiet, "typical for the area" manner..
the terrorists close families.. *snuf*.. end of the bloodlines.. (even the pets..)

it wouldve saved billions of $$$

Oh well, at least the American people who were there would be back home on "safe" soil.
