Man that sucked...RIP doggie [lots of pics]

Sense all of us here at TWF love to talk about our pets... I figure I'd post up this... even though its sad...

So yesterday sucked...

My dog Sasha has been really sick for the past few weeks. She had lost nearly a 1/3 of her weight and wasn't eating. After two trips to the vet it was determined that she was suffering from a really bad intestinal cancer. It was probably the hardest thing my wife and I had to do but the best thing for her was to have her put down. Keeping her around in the suffering that she must have been going thru would be selfish of us. It was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do... We stayed with her right till the end, she was a trooper and never gave any sign of anything being wrong just as she did with life. But we will remember her for the bundle of joy and excitement that she always was. She went out on top of her game and without anybody seeing her as anything but what she always has been, absolutely wonderfull. Sasha was a great dog and never gave anybody a headache. She will be really missed by all especially our family.

RIP Sasha aka puppy

The last 2 were from the vets office...

Its just crazy how these pets just become so much a part of the family. I really didn't think it would effect me as much as it did... but I will just try to remember the good things... I still remember when my childhood dog had to be put to sleep. It wasn't nearly as hard... I think having to be there and do it ourselves..you know tell the dr we'l do that... then being there with her... it was just so hard.

Damn, that's sucks. The pics make it even worse. Especially from the vets office. I hated when when my dog died back in '99. When I came home that day, he was so excited to see me. More excited than any other day. I think he was saying good bye, because he passed about 30 minutes later. Rambo was his name. Cockerspaniel-poodle mix. First dog that lived in our house. We burried him in our back yard.

It's very hard. I'm getting teary eyed because you reminded me of my old dog.

I'm sorry to hear about you having to put her down. It's never an easy thing to do. But like you said, it was the right thing. She isn't in pain or suffering.

I am so sorry to hear that. I sincerely feel for your loss. I had a similar experience as a kid with my dog Hunter. He was supposed to be my brothers dog but he and I bonded and stuck thru it all. The most turbulent years of my life were spent with his consolation. 13 years (longer than my first marriage) and his hard living had caught up to him. Kidneys and liver shutting down I held him until he slipped away. It is so hard to believe that you can put so much into a relationship with an animal.

Go on and grieve man! I feel ya!

I'm glad I'm not the only one... I remember my dog Tasha... I was born on June 19, my folks brought Tasha home the week after the 4th of July... We grew up together... Nicest dog ever... Pure Doberman that wouldn't hurt a fly... Protective as hell of two things... The house and me... My parents had to take her out of the room to spank me. After my parents divorce she lived with my grandma, but I always made it a point to visit her... After Trick or Treating in my grandma's neighborhood I came back and my dad told me... Tasha had cancer and we had to put her down... At 10 years old you understand what that means, but don't really understand why it's better than allowing her to suffer... You're a little more selfish... I remember going into the living room while everyone else was in the family room and hugging her, crying my eyes out... It musta been a good 20 minutes... I still miss her.

Gas, I cannot imagine how hard it must be to make that decision and actually follow through with it. Kudos to you though for stepping up and not allowing Sasha to suffer more than she already had. I agree with smiley, make sure you give yourself time to greive... Anybody who tells you otherwise is an idiot... Many of us have been there and will be there again someday... It's tough.

RIP Sasha,

We all feel your pain Gas!!

I held my Shadow as they put her down when I was 12, she died in my arms...I didnt have another pet again for 8 years. Its hard, they are a part of the family and for some of us our children. Cry for her and remember the good times!!

i'm so sad for you and your wife. i was there to watch 3 dogs get put down over the course of my life. it never gets any easier. you did the right thing, especially by staying in the room with her as it was done. that's tough to do, but i'm sure she was grateful. no one should be alone when their life is ending, not even our pets. may she rest in peace now.

Thanks everybody... just hearing all the stories and the simpathlies brings a tear to my eye again. But its great to hear. We have pics of her in the house... we actually have more pics of our pets than we do of us.

And this morning I hung her collar in the garage above my work bench to remember her by. Its been hard all day...

But keep the stories coming...

My cat, Dash (funny story behind his name), is the only pet that we've actually owned and not my parents. Best cat ever. Quite the personality. I can't even imagine how much it'll suck when he passes.
