We survived Black Friday!

(and lived to tell about it! )

Chris and I did the unthinkable today.... we got up at 2:30 a.m., and ventured out to Best Buy, along with about 3,000 of our closest friends, to wait in line. Yes, yes, it's something we've both sworn we'd never do..... BUT, they had an awesome bundle deal on the Pioneer Inno portable XM radio receiver (XM service gift card, car kit, antenna headphones, sale price, $50 rebate, etc..... all in all, a SPECTACULAR deal).

So we got there around 3:15, expecting maybe 50-100 people to already be there. HOLY CRAP.... easily, there were already about 600 people in line, many of whom apparently had been there since Noon YESTERDAY.

Amazingly, however, the whole thing went really smoothly.... A nearby Panera had people with rolling carts of coffee, hot chocolate, bagels and cinnamon rolls for sale (it was about 38 degrees when we got out there, and the temp dropped slightly around 5:00 a.m.), and people all in all were being really friendly and in good spirits.

The big ticket items with limited quantities had "tickets" which were assigned/given out while we were in line, and once the store opened, only 100 people were allowed in at a time, to prevent pushing, shoving, and stampedes.

Somehow, we managed to get in, get our XM's, stand in line (there was only one person in line in front of us back in the car audio dept) and get OUT before 6:00 a.m. It was seriously running like a well oiled machine... I give them kudos for organizing it so well. (and yes, the prices on some items .... WOW.... incredible deals to be had, if you'd done your homework and knew what to look for and what were truly great deals).

We attempted to stop by Kohl's after Best Buy.... HAH.... got in there, found some cute winter items I wanted... then saw the lines for the registers? :BAHA: I called Chris (he was on the other side of the store) and told him NO sale was worth standing in that line, so we high tailed it outta there.

So did anyone else brave the Black Friday sales? Anyone crazy enough to attempt Wal-mart, Toys R Us, or the mall?

Oh yeah, so we get home, and flip on the local news (we'd seen a crew at the Best Buy we were at). It was reported to be the busiest spot in town... they estimated at one point there were over 3,000 people in line at that location.

wow can't believe you actually got what you came for with that many people.

Yesterday me and my brother went to Bestbuy at around 10:45 ish... There were easily 150, prolly 200 people in line already, it was around the front of the store, and almost to the back. 3000 people?!?!??! one store?! DAMN!!!

Bikeless for the moment.

So I ventured out with my mother out to the local mall around 7 this morning. We got what we wanted. then head out to Kohls and OMG right as we walk in, we see the long arse line. We still went there and shopped and I almost got into a fight with a lady because I picked up the last 3 Cabbage patch dolls and she wanted them. she tried taking them out of my hands and i had to have security come and get her out of my face. Needless to say, it was an eventful morning.

Finally back on 2 wheels

so does this mean its time to start cursing every time i pass an exit with any sort of commercialized area within 5 minutes?

the only thing that gets me through this time of year is christmas music. I simply love christmas music. i wish there was a station that played christmas music all year.

I was at Kohl's at 5am this morning... I was parking when they opened the doors... My guess is 3-400 people going in... I got in the doors at 5:05, picked out the leather jacket I was looking for (reg $300, today $99) and a new pair of shoes when I saw the 70% off sign... I got in line at 5:15 (about 1/3 of the way around the store), got to the checkout at 6am... $122 and change, plus a "$20 off my next purchase" coupon...

When I got to the checkout I noticed a line forming next to ours... I thought it was much shorter than the one I had just waited for... Apparently it was the same one... Completely looped around the store...

Everyone was very nice and I had/saw absolutely no problems...

I worked black friday a couple times at Best Buy. It sucked, I will never wake up that early and join the hassle and BS just to be suckered into buying something I probably don't need anyway.

You know the difference between men and women?

Women will pay $1 for a $2 item they'll never use

Men will pay $2 for a $1 item they need.

Surrender the booty, and let me get my hands on that beautiful treasure chest!!

One of these days, I'll actually buy a bike again...

Chris was a sales manager there (at the store we went to Friday a.m.) years ago, and said it was always horrific.... he said they never did ANYTHING like the way they did Black Friday this time around. He actually went in when we were done and complimented the Store Manager on how well everything went.

I've always said that as well, and chances are, I'll never, ever, ever do it again. I always laugh at the girls I work with who plan out their Wa;-mart attack... they give each other their shopping lists, they use Nextel or walkie talkies and INVADE the store. It's frightening.

It's not what the store did that made me hate it. It was the consumers that made me hate it. People suck plain and simple. That's why I am not in retail anymore. Well that and I got a degree that allows me to make a good deal of money more than I would be if I stayed in retail

By and large, I totally agree with ya. In the brief time I was in Kohl's, I had at least half a dizen other shoppers push, shove, elbow or just plain run into me with their cart. WTF???? I felt like snapping at them, "It's a freakin' sweater, woman!! It's not the cure for cancer and world hunger! Get a grip!" (but instead, I just left... )

Best Buy runs a smooth operation and a tight ship. I was out there for a morning LIVE when the PS3 came out...they did the same thing. Tickets for the machine and only 3...yes 3 people in the store at a time. Very organized and extremely efficient.

BTW...I was out on Black Friday...bought only a give for myself. New cells for my wife and I.

You know what's was so good about 'Black' Friday.... everyone was in the stores and nobody was out in the twisties....I clock so many miles... in traffic free zones... it was unbelievable... did I mention there was no cops either.

Channels 104 through 107, and then I also ran across another one somewhere around either Jazz or (light rock? I'm not all too familiar with the categories yet). I'll have to find that one and letcha know.
