(and lived to tell about it!
Chris and I did the unthinkable today.... we got up at 2:30 a.m., and ventured out to Best Buy, along with about 3,000 of our closest friends, to wait in line. Yes, yes, it's something we've both sworn we'd never do..... BUT, they had an awesome bundle deal on the Pioneer Inno portable XM radio receiver (XM service gift card, car kit, antenna headphones, sale price, $50 rebate, etc..... all in all, a SPECTACULAR deal).
So we got there around 3:15, expecting maybe 50-100 people to already be there. HOLY CRAP.... easily, there were already about 600 people in line, many of whom apparently had been there since Noon YESTERDAY.
Amazingly, however, the whole thing went really smoothly.... A nearby Panera had people with rolling carts of coffee, hot chocolate, bagels and cinnamon rolls for sale (it was about 38 degrees when we got out there, and the temp dropped slightly around 5:00 a.m.), and people all in all were being really friendly and in good spirits.
The big ticket items with limited quantities had "tickets" which were assigned/given out while we were in line, and once the store opened, only 100 people were allowed in at a time, to prevent pushing, shoving, and stampedes.
Somehow, we managed to get in, get our XM's, stand in line (there was only one person in line in front of us back in the car audio dept) and get OUT before 6:00 a.m. It was seriously running like a well oiled machine... I give them kudos for organizing it so well. (and yes, the prices on some items ....
WOW.... incredible deals to be had, if you'd done your homework and knew what to look for and what were truly great deals).
We attempted to stop by Kohl's after Best Buy.... HAH.... got in there, found some cute winter items I wanted... then saw the lines for the registers? :BAHA: I called Chris (he was on the other side of the store) and told him NO sale was worth standing in that line, so we high tailed it outta there.
So did anyone else brave the Black Friday sales? Anyone crazy enough to attempt Wal-mart, Toys R Us, or the mall?
Oh yeah, so we get home, and flip on the local news (we'd seen a crew at the Best Buy we were at). It was reported to be the busiest spot in town... they estimated at one point there were over 3,000 people in line at that location.
