A man who was taking an early morning walk was attacked by an alligator in Lakeland on Wednesday.
Adrian Apgar, of Polk City, was walking along the edge of Lake Parker when the attack happened, WESH 2 News reported.
The alligator came out of the water, grabbed Apgar and dragged him into the water, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spokesman Gary Morse said.
Two nearby sheriff's deputies heard Apgar screaming for help and dove into the water, Morse said, and they pulled the man from the alligator's jaws and dragged him out of the water.
Apgar was transported to Lakeland Regional Hospital in critical condition, officials said. Apgar suffered an apparent broken right arm, a partially amputated left arm and a major injury to his upper left leg.
Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officers are at the lake trying to locate the alligator.
