Crazy's apartment Hell...

UPDATE:
So my first roommate's dad got a lawyer for our case. my OTHER roommates dad works for the city. So he knows all the people that deal with city codes. anyways he got a city inspector out there today and they condemned our apartment. according to the inspectors, there were 8 different code violations on the furnace, plus when they installed the furnace 20 years ago, it apparently didn't meet those codes then. so prolly every other apartment in the building is in the same situation prolly (tho we didnt demand that the entire building was inspected because we don't want to be responsible for all the tenants in that building having to find a new place to live). anyways that definitely boosts our case.

All 5 of us that lived in that apartment live pretty close to it (30 mins driving) so its not a huge issue for us but trust me that doesnt mean we're letting them off easy.

I'm so sore from all the moving...

anyways for anyone that doesn't have one already go buy a carbon monoxide detector!!!

My original posts:

Got kicked out of the apartment
... for the night.
We called reporting a gas smell/leak a while ago, it was getting so bad it was making some of us sick. this was maybe a month ago. Then the guy walked in said he didnt smell anything, and that everythings fine. well today we called the power company who came over and then called the fire department. Long story short they told us we had to leave till it could be fixed. they offered us 100 bux for lodging for the nite... theres five of us... god i'm so pissed off
heres from some website:

"Mild exposure over a few hours (a CO level between 70 ppm and 100 ppm) include flu-like symptoms such as headaches, sore eyes and a runny nose. Medium exposure (a CO level between 150 ppm to 300 ppm) will produce dizziness, drowsiness and vomiting. Extreme exposure (a CO level of 400 ppm and higher) will result in unconsciousness, brain damage and death."
The whole apartment was at about 100 ppm, and in the upper rooms it was closer to 250.
apparently we had been living with dangerous levels of carbon monoxide in the upper level, and the gas leak was nearing flammable range.

the landlord (owner) told my roommate and his dad "you and your son can go fu*k yourselves, I never want to speak to u again" (thats an actual quote) thats all I know for now. anyways we moved all of our stuff out today.

Bikeless for the moment.

also the city is pretty damn pissed off at the landlord from what i hear. I'll keep you guys posted.

It would be a VERY good idea to let all of the other tenants know about this situation. Make sure they all get carbon monoxide detectors, at the very least. As much as you don't want to be responsible for the other people having to move out, if you know of a situation (life and death as this one is), you could be held liable as well. Plus, your case won't hold quite as much water if you don't have the rest of the apartment complex inspected.

Surrender the booty, and let me get my hands on that beautiful treasure chest!!

One of these days, I'll actually buy a bike again...

Well, the landlord or property owner might file bankruptcy, but they have insurance (hopefully).

Oh yeah I've talked to a few people in our building but everyone knows about the situation. Everyone in the building got carbon monoxide detectors. I think the fire department checked most units in the building, some a few times.
here's the article:

Somehow, I didn't realize you were in Champaign. I've been there a few times, but not recently. I'm over the IL/IN border in the good state.
