If I remember correctly, they expect you to go offsite to pay. That's where they get you. eBay can go after them if they don't pony up the product if the transaction were made with eBay, but if the transaction is made offsite.....you're fair game.

Avoid those auctions like the plague. If you buy a bike from eBay make sure it's close enough that you can go look at it first.

First...always use an escrow service like PayPal to pay someone unless you pick up the bike in person.

Second...always get someone you know to look at the bike before you make a deal. If you think it is a scammer...tell them you're brother is stationed at a nearby military base and will come to see/pay/pick up the bike...You will never hear from them again if it is a scam.

Third...ask the members of this forum for help...If someone is looking at a bike somewhere in my area...I'll go look at it for you and tell you what I think...If you make a deal...I'll work with you to deliver it part way...

Ask Pickle of doom, he bought a bike he had only seen pics of, from birdman and I took it to Illinois to deliver it...

I don't know how anyone could want a bike without seeing it and starting her up first.

See this thread while considering or looking at the cheap bikes. Even Bird had his bike go on ebay after his original auction as a scam. They use real bikes for the scams.

Besides that ebay buyers just want to get everything for nothing... so they don't go for nearly what you could if you sell locally or say on craigslist.
