Ipod question

is it normal to have to replace the battery in first generation Ipod nanos? mine is just so dead it wont even hold a charge, like I go to turn it on, the charger says its fully charged, I try to turn it on, and the battery is dead. just wondering if this is normal to need replacing?

I had an Ipod mini (predecesor to the Nano) and I had to have it completely replaced (the Ipod itself) because it would die and would not come back on.

I was under the impression that they could not just change the batteries... at least not on those. That was why they kept giving me new ones (and the new ones kept breaking).

I eventually bought a 60G Ipod and havent had any problems with it for the past year.

I have looked up the battery for the Nano on ebay, and it IS available, so you can change it if it goes on you. I was just wondering if it was a common problem or not.

My little bro had a mini that he left charging all the time... for like 6 months... after that he had to have it plugged in... or it'd die in 30sec...

I believe you can send it back to Apple and have the battery replaced... but my bro didn't ... he got a 60gig... and tossed the mini...

I know MY 60gig's battery sucks... cause the radio/dock I have for it that I listen to it at night charges it... and my truck's plug for it charges... so pretty much I have to leave it on ALL THE TIME... so it'll run down in the in between stages

i have an alpine headunit un my car with the ipod adapter and it charges my Ipod 60G and my battery life has not suffered one bit

Maybe my car stops charging after I turn off the ignition though?

I know mine did at one point... but letting it run down a couple times kinda fixed it...

though now I'm having a real problem with it freezing and needing to be reset.. it's pissing me off

I think it's pretty common for most of the iPod products. I know there was a class action suit against Apple that they lost for some of the older iPod batteries prematurely dieing. It's pretty easy to replace them yourself. Go to blueraven.com, I know they sell aftermarket iPod batteries for most of the iPods and they even come with tools and instructions.

I don't have a nano, but mine (2nd Gen 40G) was the same way after a year or two, it would be fully charged on the charger and then I'd take it off and use like 30 minutes later, and it would die.

My wife has the nano...I believe its a first gen. She doesn't have any problems with the battery...but she has only charged it when its dead. And it's about a year and a half old.
