This story just breaks my heart.....

And if you would like to make a donation (they estimate they'll need $1M to rebuild), there's an account set up with Wachovia Bank (account #2000034081857).

Or you can donate via credit card online:

what a tragedy! at least they managed to save most pets. and it's a no-kill shelter yet. hopefully they can rebuild quickly.

I hope so, too... I know they're doing a carwash Friday, and they've been having a phone bank on one of the local news stations the last couple nights fielding calls for people who want to help, donate, etc..... I just hate to think of the poor critters who lost their lives...

That's a sad thing.. but something about the raising funds thing, wouldn't a place like that have insurance?

I'm glad they saved as many as they could, I wonder how it started...

Nee- if you find out more info.. post it up plz...

I'm sure there's some insurance, but the entire program is run by volunteers and funded by donations.

Oh and with regard to the (very valid) question about insurance... apparently the board had recently realized they were underinsured, but no steps had been taken ( ) to rectify that problem.

Also, they have some 30+ acres, so they've decided if they can raise about $15M, they can build a much larger, better facility to house more critters.
