Daughter had a bad weekend

Well, a parent's nightmare happened to me on Friday. My daughter, who is 16 and beautiful, was at a friend's house playing on a razor type scooter. She was riding down a hill, felt she was traveling too fast, and jumped off. Unfortunately, she broke the fall with her face, and did some damage. The result was a mild concussion, stitches on the bridge of her nose between her eyes, a golf ball sized knot on her forehead, two displaced teeth that will need reconstruction in the near future, two fat lips that requried sutures, and some road rash. Luckily, the ct scan on her head was ok, and other than the cosmetic stuff, will have no permanent damage. Her ego and self esteem are not well, however. She is totally traumatized by her appearance, and that fact is made even worse as she is supposed to go to the prom in two weeks. The moral of the story is this: ALWAYS make your children wear proper gear, even on something as innocent as a push scooter. I have preached safety gear to her, but poor judgement on my daughter's part prevailed in this case.

Man- right before the prom... I bet thats hard on a 16 yr old girl. Just tell her- she'll be beautiful again- and someday laugh about it.

Done and done. We've already had a good laugh or two, but she's still bummed. Thanks for the well wishes.

If he doesn't, you should give him two black eyes.

Remind her of the Brady Bunch episode where Marsha got hit in the nose with a football before a dance. That's got to be tough on a teenager. So many kids can be cruel for stupid reasons (mainly their own insecurity) and I don't think they understand how much they hurt someone else's feelings. Hopefully you're daughter can put up with the crap she'll get and maybe it will open her eyes to things that really matter. I hope she still goes and that the guy who is suppose to take her isn't a jackass.

I'm really sorry to hear about that. For a teenage girl right before prom to have to deal with that can be devastating.

Of course if it were me, I would go show off the scars..I hope she heals fast. It will all work out, and there is always prom next year!

BF is a standup guy. He came over Saturday night with flowers and balloons. The swelling has gone down over the last couple of days, so she is finally understanding that she won't look hideous forever.

Thanks for all the well wishes!

My 10 yo son has a Razor 300 electric scooter and my 7 yo daughter has an E100 electric scoooter and they both know they must always wear a helmet ot they cant ride at all. No questions asked.
