On "Immigration Reform"

A little background;

My sister is a big lib...self-avowed socialist, left of Lenin (by her own admission). She has been trying to immigrate to Canada for a bit over a year, with little progress (there is a good reason that Canada doesn't want her, but this is not the place for that).

She has been blathering on about how the new proposal doesn't go far enough, that we (the US) should have open borders, free health care for everybody; this country sucks...blah, blah, blah.

So I asked her why she hasn't moved to Canada yet....

Long silence........then she starts on another rant about how crappy this country is.

So I asked her again if this country is so crappy, why isn't she in Canada; she gives me the yadayada about a long and arduous immigration policy; so I ask her why she doesn't just MOVE there...she's so big on open borders; just move there. What does she need PERMISSION for?

She told me that it wasn't the same thing. That if she just moved there without a visa and the like, that she could be deported.

Exactly, I said.

my whole thing is....why the hell do we need a reform...if you are here illegally...leave and try to come back along legal channels...this whole lets make the ones that have been living here illegally legal...just doesn't hold water to me.

I just don't get the wa waaa waaa...about the illegal ones...I don't mind folks moving here at all...but at least try to follow the guide lines...any other country and you will have to go through lots of hoops too. this is the only country that lets folks move here and they don't get deported.

what happens to ex-patriots?

Do you mean if someone is IN the US when they renounce their citizenship or once they are out?

I had to renounce my German citizenship to get my american one, but like my boy, he is from Britian and he has both an american and british citizenship

I am too patriotic to make an unbiased reply so i will refrain from saying too much- God knows we don't pick our family members- and yes we have to love them no matter how ignorant their views are... However- your sister needs an education- not the kind you get in school- but one you get from an eye opening experience. Tell her if she truly believes this country is so bad- to take some time and visit other countries- then if her opinion is unchanged, she can just stay in whatever country she decides is best for her. This applies to all libs/anti- government types- not just your sister. I realize this country may not be perfect- but its as close as you'll come in my opinion... (which has merit based upon actual world travel)

As for immagration reform- the only reform we need is to start enforcing the policy we already have in place... just like every other country in the world.

Funny you should bring that up: she has a couple of Masters degrees, and is the most educated IDIOT I've met; she IS "well traveled" except her travelling was always via the Taxpayers ticket...she was a musician with the National Symphony/National Opera (Kennedy Center) so all they ever saw of the "Workers' Paradises' was what the other governments wanted them to see....nothing but a bunch of brilliant dupes..............

Yeah, lots of people think they have "been" somewhere when all they actually experienced were the tourist spots. If you wanna really see a place you have to make friends with a local and spend some time. But on the other hand I guess Libs have their purpose... There has to be somekind of a balance- as long as common sense prevails.

I was born in Ireland came to Canada and now I have both British and Canadian citizenship, my only problem with Canada is they let everybody in. I work for a service company so Iím in and out of peeps houses everyday and the worst thing is that half of them do not speak English, I didnít move to Germany because I donít speak German! If they want to come here and get a job thatís fine, Come to Toronto and out of 5 peeps you bump into on the street 3 donít speak English. Pisses me off

I agree- we should also take over the middle east. We could just plant a flag and start selling oil. Free gas to all Americans!

History repeats itself. All empires came to a crashing halt at some point. Sadly, we will too. I just hope it's not in my lifetime.
