Permits and name changes

If I went ahead and got a permit, compeleted MSF, then got my M class license, will the DMV give me a new license when my name change finally goes through? I'm in a 30 day waiting period and a bit pressed for time to get the license before I head off to basic.

Stab them in the eye with a soldering iron, that will make them do the name change for ya. If that doesn't work, give em a texas t***y twister.

I'll call them tomorrow and see what's up. I don't see why there would be a problem with it.

I believe you need to go to the SS office first to change it there and then go to the DMV with all your paperwork. They will give you a new driver license right there while you wait.

Well that is how you do it in GA, I helped a friend do it a while back.

My mom is telling me I have to wait for a certificate from the newspaper saying the name change has run for 30 days or some crap like that. This is all more trouble than it's worth......I can see it now. I'll be in Basic training, and they'll call my name, I'm not used to it so I'll say, "Wha?" and get dropped lol.

Why are you changing your name in the first place? And what are you changing it to?

Why not? Women change their last names all the time when they get married. The DMV doesn't give them any problems, so why would they give you a problem?

It's a legal thing. It's to let everyone know you've changed your name and if someone wanted to say against it that gives them a chance. Another stupid law in our country.

Then as far as the DMV is concerned, it's just like a woman changing her name after getting married. Don't sweat it.

Ahh, I see... I still don't see why there is so much chit involved... maybe it's just your state... should be as simple as a woman changing it for marriage...

Alright, thanks guys. I was hoping I wouldn't have to wait to get it. I have to work from 7am till 6pm tomorrow so Ill have to see when my next day off is so I can get my permit. Should I make an appointment or just walk in?

To get my permit in MA I just showed up when the DMV opened, waited 5 minutes, flew through the test in 4 minutes, and left. Very quick process.
