I have been invited on numerous trips to the gap; and I've always declined... the thought of all those bikers of various skills, abilities and judgement zooming up and down with traffic both ways just gives me the willies... I won't even forget the Killboy series of pics of the biker goin wide and slamming into a biker coming the other way...

Yes, I know there are chances of that happening on any stretch of road with blind curves, but it seems that the whole scene is geared for trouble...riders checkin' out and commenting on the newbs "chickin strips" ; goading others into riding over their heads to keep up. The simple fact that Killboy even exists is testament to the sheer volume of folks willing to pay for pics of themselves letting their hair down on one stretch of road.........

Sorry, I've never been much for group gropes....

I wouldnt let that stop me from riding that road. Its a fun road. You are right in avoiding during its busy season tho. And I always ride at my level f**k what others say. If they are true riders they wont push you past your abilities. And on the Dragon youu wont have chicken strips long unless you go uber slow lol.

You know its funny I have ridden the dragon a few times and this is pretty much the conclusion I have come to. It is a fun road but there are fun roads anywhere with hills I did like the enthusiasts sweeping the gravel off the road even though it just encouraged me to push harder. I am all for some quick spirited riding but I definitly don't like huge crowds of people racing in different directions. I will say though that the dragon rawks about thirty minutes past sunrise on a weekday though. I have loved working weekends this summer it sucks sometimes, but I have had some nice rides on the weekdays it is awesome to ride forty miles of two lane and not have a single vehicle get in front of you I guess I am not going fast enough.....

Very sad, sounds like it was a couple riding together. Could possibility have had kids.

I'm staying out of there until the huge riding season cools down a bit, from killboy's site I get the impression there's tons of bad drivers/riders there everyday as it's the middle of the summer/vaction season. I'll wait until fall and head down.

I agree. I believe off-roading three-wheelers were banned in a couple states for their notorious, sudden, deadly turnovers.

Sportrider or one of the other american bike mags did a review of 4 or 5 kinds of trike conversions for goldwings and said they all handled horribly and unpredictably. This was several years ago, they may be better now.

surely not sport bikes i have one! trikes! they are the dumbest things i've ever seen, and usually only piloted by equally retarded owners.

There is a pic of the wreck on tailofthedragon.com

The trike was going way too fast and blew the turn and pretty much went through a boat that was being towed. The people were ripped open. It wasn't pretty. They died probably immediately. The woman on the back was ripped from about the thigh to the shoulder and the insides were on the outsides. I was up there today and the patrols werent that bad, but the traffic pretty much prevented any high speed runs til late in the afternoon.
