Back from my vacation! (56k death)

I'm posting this in OT so it's not public... w/e.

Well I am back from my vacation to Nova Scotia, Canada, for 10 days, and let me tell you, it was friggin’ awesome. Put on a ton of miles and got a lot of seat time, also a lot of good eating and drinking, relaxing, sightseeing, a little partying, etc. Visited with family and friends we have there, too. Really awesome trip. TONS of twisties, good pavement in general, most roads were deserted. Did a little bit of highway riding on the transcanada just to get from a to b (hit 161mph on one straight deserted portion ), but spent most of my time on the coastal roads. Nova Scotia, even being a small island, has over 4500 miles of coastline, and all the roads hug its ins and outs. Awesome. Just plain awesome.

I have an ever greater love for my r6 now. It's just so friggin' hot. I love it.

Over the course of the trip when getting ready for bed I finished Nick Ienatsch's 'Sport Riding Techniques', Lee Parks' 'Total Control', and finished the first half of Keith Codes' 'A Twist of the Wrist'. I will finish that soon and then read ATOTW 2 afterwards. I'd recommend all of these books, they are very helpful and clearly written. There are a couple discrepancies in the authors' opinions but they are small details. All worth the read.

Anyways, I took a chitload of pictures... I will post about a quarter of them since there were so damn many, even though most are not motorcycle
related. There's also a really short video at the end. Enjoy!

After taking the CAT (catamaran boat, very fast and comfortable ferry) from Portland, Maine to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia the first stop was Annapolis Royal, the historic port town of defense. We went to their historic gardens and WOW were they beautiful. Call me but I took a lot of pics. Some of them came out pretty awesome.

Me and my mom near the Rose section:

This is quite possibly one of the most gorgeous pictures I have ever taken:

At the Annapolis Royal Garrison/outpost:

At the Annapolis Royal Tidal Power station. It uses a huge turbine/stator/etc to generate power as the tide goes in an out. The tide in this region moves quickly and changes the sea height by as much as 30 feet... can generate a lot of power this way:

Ok enough of this chit it's time to RIDE:

Cool lighthouse and sexy bike:

There are a lot of bugs up there this time of year...

Next we went to Grand Pre, the spot of the Acadian settlement and eventual deportation (most people don't know about this, only about the jews in the holocaust. This occurred in the 1700's and was a pretty big deal). There is a large winery there with amazing wine (I bring home a case every year) and an amazing restaurant. Our friend owns a bed and breakfast next to the winery where we stay every year. You can actually walk through the vineyards to dinner from the B&B. Doesn't get much better than that. It also provides a good place for sexy motorcycle photoshoots

Hott bike:

The church where many acadians were gathered and then forced to leave their homeland:

The stained glass window inside depicts the deportation:

Me and my dad near the grand pre, lookin' gangsta:

There's a lookoff spot called Blomidon near Grand Pre that overlooks all of grand pre, the ocean, farmlands, etc. Pretty awesome. Here are some lookoff pics:

A little action shot, except my photographer took the photo BEFORE I was actually turning, just when I was positioning my body for the turn. Oh well.

Well the trip was halfway through and the raven was looking a little beat up, so I bought some supplies and gave her a good wash, dry, wax, polish, and buff. Looked friggin awesome. So I gave her a sexy photoshoot in front of the vineyard

So our next stop was supposed to be a nice place, but it turned out to be WAYYYY in the middle of nowhere and not very nice. We just drove right by and canceled our reservations. We stopped at the supposed 'private beach' to laugh about it. The beach was practically the end of the earth.

My dad lamenting the accomodations

Me on the end of the earth

Leaving that chithole... I tried to get some air for my tires, and this is what I found at the gas station. Not very helpful.

So, we decided to go to Halifax, the capital of Nova Scotia. It's a fun city with a lot of character. I would liken it to a smaller version of Boston.

View from our penthouse suite:

The most comfortable bed I have EVER slept in:

The Nova Scotian Crystal company (I have some of their stuff, real nice quality, all handmade unlike that mass-produced waterford junk everyone seems to love so much) is down by the water and you can watch their artisans work, pouring molten crystal around like it was incredibly easy:

Went to the maritime history museum where they have all sorts of Titanic artifacts (forgot to photo those, though)... instead here's a cool ship in a bottle:

These guys build ship models all day:

My dad giving a look to match his salad:

Traveling now to Ingomar where another friend has a set of seaside cottages we stay in, and my aunt and uncle and cousins have a summer home across the street.

Ready to ride:

Ridin' dirty:

More nice scenery:

Beautiful scenery, check. Sexy bike, check. Twisty coastal road, check. Yes, I think I'm in heaven.

Another lookoff:

Wait a minute. Milton is in Massachusetts, Liverpool is in the UK, Brooklyn is in New York, and they're ALL only 2km away?

Arrived at the cottages, ready to go out for some more riding:

My bike is so ****ing hot:

Post-ride relaxation by the ocean:

Down the street is some land owned by our families that is literally the most amazing, deserted beach I have ever been on. No one is ever there, the ocean is clean, and the beach is white. Really in the middle of nowhere.

Uncle, dad, cousin, aunt, all happy they survived me taking the jeep down the access trail:

Beach pics:

That's just precious:

Me, uncle, cousin, aunt:

The man of the sea:

Relaxing with my wine:

Really, sometimes life just plain doesn't suck. Relaxing with a glass of wine, in paradise, watching the sunset:

The towering inferno bonfire I built by the cottages:

Getting packed up again

I don't want to leave

On the way to the boat we saw a peacock in the road. We couldn't figure out why he was being so ballsy and not moving out of the way:

Then we saw the reason: His mate and children.

Lunch in Shelburne's historic dock street district, and my dad fell asleep waiting for our table to be ready

Historic dock street waterfront in Shelburne:

Nova Scotian fallen sailor memorial:

Yes, we drove THROUGH a cloud on the way to the ferry:

The CAT pulling into the dock:

I still don't want to leave...

Pulling onto the CAT:

Makin' waves... The CAT is a catamaran with four 15,000 horsepower diesel engines. Cruising speed is just under 40 knots, or around 45 mph. The thing really moves:

Here’s a quick little video of a nice turn I found. Speed limit was 25mph, I’m doing 65mph the whole way through. More speed and lean angle was possible but this was a public road and it had some gravel strewn about. Full-on lean kneedraggin would require upwards of 90mph, I’ll save that for a track day. The purpose of this was more to work on my body positioning, so any tips would be welcomed (I'm sure DLIT will chime in as usual ); keep in mind that I sat on a motorcycle for the first time 3 months ago, however, so don't rag on me too badly. Sorry for the video quality… I need a new cameraman

Well, that's it. My trip was awesome. Hope you enjoyed it.

Did you beat up any french canadians? If not, you must go back and make amends for not doing so by beating up two french canadians.
