creative sentencing for criminals

I was watching something or other on tv recently, and the subject of creative sentences instead of jailtime came up.

now I've always thought that sending a person to jail for something like stealing or the like is about the same as sending a child to their room to punish them. in my personal opinion, it only gives the accused person time to sit there and become angry and bitter, instead of helping them.

creative punishments on the other hand, to me at least seem fairly simple, and more effective to keep the person from doing what they did again. ideally the punishment would make the person realize how it feels to have the crime they committed happen to them, prevent them from doing it again, and hopefully deter others.

share your opinions if you wish. remember, what I said above is strictly MY opinion and not fact.

It depends on your feelings about the status quo criminal justice system. What is there obligation? To be the punisher? To be the "rehabilitater"?

IMHO, it sounds like your advocating eye-for-an-eye justice, akin to the Iran-style system.

No I think they are more saying that after a couple times, if the person can't become a decent member of society (or stop getting caught), that they have no hope. More like an eye for 3 or 4 eyes

Killing people is wrong...Bottom line...When you take someones life for any reason...It is wrong...Especially when we are all 'equal' citizens... If they can't learn after 3 or 4 times send them back to jail..Even though the ails are full..Nobody has any right to take anyones LIFE from them...I don't think stealing any 'item' that can be replaced or remade can do justice for taking a life which will NEVER come back EVER...In my opinion that is...I just hope people stop the violence....

Personally, I don't think Jail works for the most part. Then again, I'm not sure what would. I think permanent incarceration is more than necessary for many people and I believe that the death sentence is just.

I think public humiliation sounds like a good answer

I say all pedophiles should be sentenced to cleaning the shark tank at Seaworld while wearing a suit made of raw hambuger meat.

If we can kill animals because they overpopulate-We can kill the uncorrectable-The serial murderer, rapist, and molester.

As far as other lesser crimes....Public Humiliation sounds about right. Here's a Sheriff that has found a clue.

see, the problem is that we only have so much to spend annually, and so much room to build new jails and correctional facilities, in the long run, creative punishments that fit the crime are what I personally believe will work. I'm not saying kill everyone, just the scum that know nothing BUT crime and will never be honest members of society.

Okay And I Agree with you..We only have so much cash....And I could consider creative sentencing if it didn't mean death.. Maybe work for the government or Public Humiliation..but nothing too bad.. And this is going against the constitution's against cruel and unusual punishment..But I see where you are coming from..Maybe expulsion from America?

In texas we've put in a fast lane to the death sentence. You kill someone and we'll kill you back.

I love being from Texas!!!

I am not a violent person, nor do I typically condone it, but I am very much an eye for an eye kind of person...

and while I am no expert my any means, doesnt the bible state that any man who kills another is to be punished by the same means by his fellow man??
