[Beer] Second homebrew done!

As you can tell from my new avatar, I'm starting to turn into quite the beer fanatic. I just tested my second brew from my Mr. Beer kit, yesterday, and it turned out great.

The Pale Ale they give you in the kit is somewhat weak, not hoppy, just balanced for the masses. Plus, it's quick.

My second ale is a darker brew with Amarillo hops added in. It's got some bitterness like an IPA, but not overwhelming. I opted not to ferment this batch with the hops, instead I only steeped them in during the boil. Well, it turned out great. In fact, had I left them in it might have turned out too hoppy.

This time, I also used 12 oz bottles and capped them myself. The carbonation was fantastic. There was a lot of "lacing" on the glass and the head was about 1" thick and lasting. Good, medium body, I was very happy with it.

Surprisingly, it was remarkably clear. The yeast sediment settled to the bottom, as to be expected, but it almost looked like a commercial filtered brew.

So, three weeks in the fermenter and three weeks carbonating at room temp, one week "lagering" in the fridge and voila! It's only going to get better with time, too.

Some friends and I thought about starting brewing our own beer over the summer, but being 18 and 19 years old it probably wouldn't have worked out so well. Glad you are havin fun with it.

Home brewing is addictive, my only problem is I go though a batch faster than it take to ferment it, so I need to keep 2 batches going at once.
