Ok, I my cat had kittens that stay out on the front porch. SO I open the front door 2day and look through the screen door to see what their up to this morning. They're are on the porch wrestling so I decide to go pet them. No soon do I open the door do I see this big ass (about 3 ft long) black snake curled up and chilling on my porch. Well I look at him and it looks dead but I decide to play it safe and step in the backyard to get a shovel and some shoes. Well I come back and it's gone.
At this point I'm thinking "ok guess it wasn't dead. After a few seconds I see the kittens dragging it over to the other side of the porch. The are scratching and biting at it and it's just laying there motionless. After observing this I figure maybe one of my larger cats killed it and brought it up here. So I again open the screen door (at this point the shovel is lying against the open front door because I have decided this snake is dead. Well no soon do I open the door the snake takes off towards my open door (and me!). First reaction is to shut the door. The snake gets right up and the door has the kittens follow and scratch it up some more. I reach for the shovel and by the time I get back around to open the screen door that damn snake has already worked itself between a crack and is under the porch.
black snakes are actually good, they wont eat your cats, this I can attest to as we have a large population of outdoor cats on my moms farm. They eat rats and other rodents, we actually have a couple of them that mill around the chicken coop because they eat the rats and such that come for the eggs.
You could feed a bunch of mice a whole lot of time release drugs and stuff... then release them under your porch... Snake eats mice, digests drugs, dies, and stinks up your porch for a few weeks. Problem solved.
