Basics- You get an extra $300/month and you loose your guaranteed follow-on. They put you where they want.

The $300 will be for the 24 months. And, yup, you loose your follow-on. So if you got a sweet one, I wouldn't risk it. You should have enough bank from the two tours in the desert anyway.

Looks like things have changed. It used to be that you usually got your choice of where to go after the two years. I don't know that $300 a month would be worth having to suffer in some hole for a couple years till you could get out, especially if you had a sweet follow-on.

How long before you leave? I don't remember when I put in for mine, but hell, that was 10 years ago. I should have stayed in; I'd have less than 7 more years to go to get to retirement.

Surrender the booty, and let me get my hands on that beautiful treasure chest!!

One of these days, I'll actually buy a bike again...

well my RNLT is 10 March... but I'll be leaving AK around the 20th or so of Jan... I've got the leave... so I'll spend a month with my friends and family in Oregon and North Dakota.

Like I said I don't have a follow on yet... I already turned in my paperwork for it... but when I did my paperwork I was plan'n on me and my girl ending up together... things have changed and if I can... I'd like to go overseas...

I wonder if I choose the 2 year thing do I get 2 mid tour leaves? and when I have to agree to the 2 year contract by

You can do it now, or you have a certain amount of time to apply for it when you get here. you'll hear it multiple times during in-processing. The fact that you have a certain amount of time to apply once your here makes me wonder if you only get the $300 during the 2nd year. Definately inquire about that shiz.

What sucks, is that i'm married now but I'm not eligable for seperation pay. Mad gay.

when did you get married? I knew you were engaged but didn't know you already got married...

Yeah I knew you wouldn't be... I had a first sergeant that got married after she got and accepted her assignment... they said the assignment was based on her single status... she had to wait a year then apply for a joint spouse assignment...

when did you find out your follow-on? like how many months before you actually went to Korea... the MPF is telling me I may not know till I'm already THERE! I was like **** THAT... good way of getting SCREWED!

Got married on the 14th while on my mid-tour. I had my follow-on about a month or so, give or take, before I left to come here. But people that got here around the time I did still don't have their follow-on. They just gotta wait, I guess. They should be getting it in October.

Congratulations, bro

And based on you saying that she's the one who bought you the track plastics, it sounds like you've got a good one
