Michael Vick's latest brush with the law will result in further trouble for him with the NFL if he resumes his career.
Vick tested positive for marijuana on Sept. 13, according to court records. The test will lead to further restrictions on Vick's ability to travel while he awaits sentencing from the federal government on Dec. 10. Vick and three other defendants pleaded guilty to charges involving dogfighting, killing dogs and gambling at a home he owned in rural Virginia.
The urine test for drugs was administered by government authorities. NFL spokesman Greg Aiello wouldn't comment on Vick specifically in terms of the drug program, but indicated the positive test could lead to Vick being in violation of the league's substance abuse policy.
"As you know, violations of the law with banned substances are also considered a violation of the NFL's policy," Aiello said. Vick is currently under indefinite suspension from the NFL.
Also, on Tuesday, Virginia authorities said they planned to charge Vick in relation to the crimes Vick admitted to in the federal case.
"Neither (Tuesday's) news nor (Wednesday's) news impact (the NFL suspension)," Aiello said. "Is what he did a violation of NFL policy yet? We don't know and we aren't going to address it right now."
Violating the NFL substance abuse policy the first time results in counseling and increased testing for players. A second violation results in a fine and further violations lead to suspensions, starting at four games.
