Navy or Air Force

If you were to enlist today which branch of service would you chose? And for those that are already enlisted, or officers, why did you choose the one you did.

I joined the Navy but if I had to do it again I'd go USMC.

How would you say the Navy has treated you, how long have you been in it? Are you making a career out of it?

I'd choose Marines....never been in the armed forces though.

Life isn't fair. All you can do is try to make it unfair in your favor.

It depends on what you want to do. If you want a higher quality of life then The Air Force is the obvious answer. Great training which will prepare you for a civillian job on the outside, No BS detail- stay in hotels rather then tents- air conditioning and top notch equipment and facilities. But if you want excitement or to kick some a$$ The Air Force may not satisfy your need. You can always go special forces (para rescue/combat control) but that can be said for any of the branches. It comes down to what you want.

If you wanna travel and see the world I'd go Navy. (The Navy also has good training- its just that the living conditions are not as good)

Can't disagree with this.

I served 4 1/2 years in the USMC and am proud of it.

IF I was to join today from what I now know... I think I'd go the Air Force route...they just seem to have it better in alot of ways as TOMMYTOM posted.

I possibly would join the Navy and maybe even the Coast Guard.

Nothing against the Army...my father served in the Army...and I was stationed on an Army base for a few months while attending a school...BUT I'd join the USMC again over the Army but that's just me.

As stated though...it does depend on what you want to do as far as a career in the service

Marines! The few and the proud! Not to disrespect any branch but if you want to be a warrior, be a marine. Soldiers and sailors and airmen do their duty, but the duty in those branches might be combat and might be support and logistics. Marines are pretty much combat primary, support secondary.

My hats off to all of the branches though. It is a proud service!

Your right and wrong...

The Air Force does have a better quality of life... when deployed we don't USUALLY stay in tents... we usually have hard billets like Dorms. and yes A/C is a big deal in the Air Force. Top Notch equipment? uh... well maybe for the military but we're defiantly not cutting edge technology.

Also because of what's above you have A LOT of whiney bitches who joined for reasons unknown and bitch and gripe about every "militaryish" thing we do! so remember that when your considering the AF... as it's both amazingly annoying to hear on a daily basis "**** this I can't wait to be a civilian" from someone who's 20 and wouldn't last 2 mins in the civilan world with out getting fired.

From my experience (6 years in Feb) most people joined the AF for school or to get out of their life before. and the majority of them will bitch and whine about not getting freedoms that they gave up when they signed the dotted line.

as I said... I've been in the AF for 6 years... I'll have 10 in when it's time to re-enlist. honestly... I love it. I do wish it was a bit more military at times, the disrespect shown my todays airmen to NCO's and leadership kills me... but all in all I fit the AF very well... I love the change, the challenge, and meeting new people.

Between the two I'd go AF again any day of the week... I'm not big on boats, and so ship duty wouldn't agree with me much...

When you do choose the AF...

RESEARCH YOUR JOB! make sure you get one you want... a bad one can sour your taste of the AF and the military. a good one can turn you in to the next General.

but above all... KEEP A POSITIVE outlook no matter what branch you choose... Negativity spreads like cancer and it's extremely easy to catch but in the end it's just going to hurt yourself... just remember why your joining, and keep your goals in mind. and ENJOY the opportunities afforded to you by the sacrifices your make'n.

But it does depend on what your future plans are.
Making a career of it?
Just in it for the money?
If you are looking for some extra ching, and like the civilian life, but want more disipline, check out the Nat'l Guard/Reserves of ANY of the branches. Yet another good option.

Oh, and great write up Ebbs... I agree 100%
And ya get the whiney ones in the Army too

Navy or AF, probably AF because (some) the jobs that they do are easier to convert to civilian life once they are out! Now considering I've been in the Army for the last 16+yrs, well I would have to stay green! All branches are cool though, just depends on your state of mind. Now if I was to do in all over again, it will probably be the Marines or the AF.....

I did 13 years in the canoe club. If I had to do it over again I would have went Coast Guard. Navy teaches Civilian skills and you don't have to play in the Sandbox(Iraq).

Neithier. (sorry TG). I would go w/ Marines. First, there's nothing tougher, nor hotter than a FEMALE Marine

Besides, you gotta be seriously off in the head to be a Marine (or so I hear) and Im perfect for that

I wanted CG a while back. Sounds like you made a good decision regardless. Besides, I'd like to play in the sandbox..I almost CRAVE it. "almost".
