AT&T U-Verse

I had a kid stop by my front door yesterday...

Currently I have Comcast tv and internet 6.0mbs internet and HD tv. As well as the fact that I have 6 tvs (1 HD (soon to be2), 5 normal) and 1 internet hookup. Plus the HD and dual DVR $130

This kid said he can get me the same stuff with a quad DVR and you can access it from any tv in the house. Each tv gets a box, kinda like sat. The internet gets 1.5mbs but something about each house gets 70mbs... just that your tv's take away from that... plus HD and the DVR. $109 + tax

Anybody else hear of this or seen this service???

Any good?

Don't because for 1) its probably a promotional thing for like 3 months 2) You would need to get new equipment (even if they say its free ti will still end up costing you) 3) If ti aint broke dont fix it, is the $20 a month for a while worth all the trouble?

deal looks good to me... AT$T is an established provider, they have the technology and resources to compete.
i wish email addresses were also portable to new service providers such as phone numbers.

i currently have comcast also with their voip/12meg/dvr service. it's not as good as brighthouse/earthlink, but it works.

I had earthlink for awhile and I would rather shoot myself than go back to them. Had nothing but problems. Not doubting the deal is legit just saying there is probably a time limit on it and I dont think it would be worth the hastle.

Well I am sold on their tv service... the quad dvr and dvr access anywhere in the house sounds great.

I'm worried about internet speed and whether or not I need to get their top speed.

Further, the price. Is it a standard price? It doesn't say anywhere on the their site that its a promotional price. I asked the sales man at my front porch if it was and he also said no it was a normal price. The only thing they offer now is first month free!

anything over 1meg is sufficient. unless you have 10 or more pc's running at once, then you will need to double the bandwidth. bottlenecks will drop any high speed bandwidth to below subscription levels.

i've tested this with a 512k dsl, 1.5 mb dsl, 3 mb dsl, 6 mb cable, 12 mb cable. download speeds at certain sites were very close. internet browsing speed was also similar. the advantage of high bandwith is for multiple downloads from various sites.

speakeasy test shows around 22mb download/2mb upload speed. pr0n browsing speed is still the same as with a 512k DSL connection.
