Do you feel guilty?

Scenario: You go into a shop, check out a product, get help from someone who works there, find your exact size or whatnot...

Do you feel guilty if you then leave the shop and go buy the product for less money off the internet?

Nope. I will ask them if the will match prices and if they say no...oh well. If they will, I will get it there then.

I usually go to the local shop to try things on and see them in person. Then, I go to the net to see what kind of prices they are asking. Typically my local shop is close to the same price, especially when you include shipping. If they happen to be out of line then I ask about a price match.

I don't feel guilty.
I always ask for a price match with shipping included to the internet price for comparison.
Shipping can get you and if its a part that needs to be installed.
You better get a quote for installing the part that you bring.

I don't either...

But asking them if they can price match what your internet price is (including the S&H)...

I always compare internet price + S&H vs local price + tax

That way you're comparing apples to apples...

I'm with you on this one bro. It's my $$$ and I work hard for it (ok, sometimes I do but it's still my money) and I'm going to give my business to the one who gives me the best deal.

Nine times out of ten the shops around here... don't have what I want... I end up trying on something similar... to see what the correct size is... and then ordering it... what's the difference... I order from a shop and wait 5 days or order on line and wait 6 days... for cheaper... guess which way I go...

I don't feel quilty, heck the local won't even come close and it's run by a good friend from college. For gear I got the perfect setup, great internet dealer is located only a couple miles away so I don't have to deal with shipping and I get to try it on and still get internet pricing.

If i take up a ****load of someones time, and they all excited about a sale, i MIGHT feel a little guilty. But, i know what prices to pay for things before i even go out looking. I tend to hear about new things from a million different sources then i go look online to look for em. THEN, i head out to the shops with a price in mind or an add in hand. And if they can match it or beat it and they have what i want, its a done deal. if not, too damn bad.

And heres a technique i learned from my dad about buying cars and this WILL help ALL of you out if you ever buy a new car. He looks online for what he wants, finds the invoice price etc, and gets together a list of what he wants and then goes out and looks at like 10+ different dealers for the lowest price. And his favorite thing to do is offer like $500 below invoice or $500 above invoide depending on the market. IF your dealing with a reputabloe dealer and they really want the sale, they will agree to it. And get them to agree to it IN WRITING. As in a WRITTEN PRICE for the EXACT vehicle you want, nothing less.

Then he goes to other dealers that he likes, walks in finds a salesman or preferably the sales manager, says "Here what i want, heres the price So and So gave me, if you can meet it or beat it, we have a deal. If not, have a nice day." And more than once have some people refused the deal and he takes his papers and walks out. And also more than once have people said "well wait wait, let me talk to the sales manager" and he gets the deal.

My dad is 62 and has bought more than 5 cars like this since i can remember. Even used cars. He looks at a bunch of places like Car Max and Auto Trader online and finds out about what the mean price of the vehicle should be, then gets the B B value on them and prints it out and goes in and plays hardball. He thinks like all of you on here do, its his $ and hes not payin a **** load more because they want to jack up the price.

Sorry for the novel but im just tryin to pass along some good info. He just ordered another new Yukon XL and got like $5,000 off of the price they were asking, and he even picked every option himself. SO, he will have a vehicle taylored exactly to his needs and he payed what HE wanted to for it.

My final words of advice, play hardball, but do it in a calm, professional manor. You will get what you want at a good price, guarenteed.

I can tell you that there are many advantages that a dealer or local shop can offer that us "online" retailers can't. Sizing is the BIGGEST challenge as an online retailer. Try sizing someone over the phone for a set of leathers. We can use our experience to help, but it isn't always the best way. If someone is unsure of their size, we always recommend they try and find a local dealer to try stuff on.

If you have a local dealer that is helpful, courteous, friendly, and treats you like a human being that they are happy to see...it is worth spending the extra money with them. They did take the time out of their day to spend with you, and if they are nice and happy you are there, what's a few extra dollars to support them? The problem that I have found is that MOST places aren't like that. I would always rather give my money to a dealer who treats me like they are happy to have me as a customer. If they do, I'm willing to spend the extra $$$. If not, I have no problem going elsewhere.

I am a buyer and most people that know me say that I would sell my mom to save a dime - well that is untrue I'd do it for a nickel.. lol.. So what do you think? Guilty? Hell no I work too hard for my money and I will save it any way I can.. If the local shop provides outstanding service then I don't mind paying the extra money but if they don't then they can blow me and I will use them to get sizes, etc. I don't give them extra money just because I like them because they are not unlike everyone else - I hate them all equally..
