Both are not good for you. Dipping can cause for cancer to show on the lips and be very visable. Smoking just hides it in your lungs. Neither are good for you. I used to dip and then saw what it can do to you so I stoped. Its going to be your choice. Good luck and best thing is to do is QUIT.

Both are NASTY, IMHO, and both cause cancer just in different places. So I wouldn't really say one is better or worse than the other, since then ending results are the same.

My advise.... do your body a huge favor and QUIT already!!

Both nasty. But if you would rather die than be disfigured when they cut the cancer from your mouth... smoke. (just not anywhere near me)

Bull you're NOT old enogh to have any other habbits...

Drewpy....as they all said...both are very bad for you... both cause cancer... but I would have to say that dipping is worse for you and your body. Reason being... it can attack your gums, teeth, lips, tongue, throat...all of which are very visable....

Quit! Just flat out quit man... I promise you, that you will thank us all!

I chewed in highschool and college, it was mandatory for baseball players. I smoke now mainly b/c I'm a dumbass. Proved I could quit for 9 months, though. They're both disgusting.

One time I told a doctor I quit smoking.. He said good how did you do it? I said I started chewing.. He said um you would be better off smoking than chewing, etc.. I still smoke here and there - mostly when I ride, bowl or go to the bar but it is nothing more than a recreational thing.. Something I enjoy doing.. Kind of like alcohol.. I need vices in my life here and there.. Like gambling, etc. - not overdoing it, just in moderation.. Moderation is the key to everything.. But it is hard to just smoke occassionally - especially if you used to smoke 3 packs a day, etc. I still chew occassionally too - mostly when I hunt, etc.

Smoking was really meant as a casual thing... you know like back in the day... it was never meant to do like 20-40 times a day like most people do now... you were suppose to have a smoke in the evening with your drink... ya know...like WAY old school!!

I'm a dipper too.

Like pig said, it's pretty much mandatory when you grow up playing ball.
I used to only dip when i was playing ball, or driving. But now that i'm riding pretty much all the time and don't just go for a "dip drive", i do it all the time.
As i'm typing right now i got a pinch of berry skoal between my lip and gums.

I just wish i could rig something up inside my helmet so i could have a dip out on the open road. I've tried a hose going to a bottle inside my jacket and various twists on that idea, but the only one that really works is just lifting my helmet once and a while to spit. Really gets those cagers off your A$$.

I still remember the very first dip i had. It was skoal straight, after school on the way home. I was in grade 9. I wish i had never taken it.

There is not many things in my life that i would go back and change, but that would be my top priority if i got one do-over. Like MP said, everybody needs their vices, I only wish i'd chosen another one. I have tried to quit before, and one time i made it for 6 months. But low and behold the start of another ball season. It's also very tough when ALL of your friends dip. In the coming months i'm going to give it another, honest shot.

To everybody out there who has yet to try it. DON'T. Everybody says that it's not addictive. Their idiots. plain and simple. And with all these new flavours of "candy" dip out there, like berry, cherry, apple, vanilla....etc it's even easier to get hooked, because they actually do taste good. And before you know it your hooked.

Sorry for the long rant, this thread just happened to catch my attention

I grew up playing baseball and never dipped. EVER. I could never justify the expense or consequence.

I played ball, dipped, smoked and drank.. lol.. I was in the majority here.. I remember my first dip - Hawkin Wintergreen.. My buddy Joe got it from his older brother.. I was 13... About 2 months later I smoked my first cigarette - Marlboro Light.. It was all downhill after that.. If you have never done it - like Dan said - don't.. I try to do it moderately but it is hard.. I could go for a smoke or a dip right now..
