Military Forum

Just a suggestion..but could we make a Military forum somewhere on here? I haven't seen one, and I know there are a ton of TWF members who are in the military and are going to be.

Oh..and just to start this out...if those of you would like to share your history here...please do so! Ex: branch of service, how long youve been in, what made you GO in, etc etc. I need all the encouragement I can get, even though some fellow TWF member is quite good at talking me OUT of joining! lol.

I was in the US Navy for 4 years from 1989 - 1993. I was an AT (Avionics Technician) stationed on the USS Nimitz. I did 2 tours in the persian gulf, 1 during the first gulf war.

I went in because I was no where ready for college. The 4 years helped me mature and made me better prepared to start school when I got out. I also thought it was my civic duty as a US citizen to serve this country.

That was a while ago..however, I'm assuming you did get the GI bill for college? That's my main PLUS of wanting to get in, is the $ for school! Which I know I cant do on my own bill!

Yes I used every penny of my GI bill. When I was going to school it was only $400/ month that I got from them. It doesnt go very far but it helped a great deal.

Shiot! I get $1075 a month for my GI Bill.

Oh, Army with the 3rd ID when we pushed to Baghdad in 24hrs. Lost a lot of friends there and in the second tour there. It sucks seeing your friends die, especially one by friendly fire just because the guy didn't like him and now is pleading "PTSD" did it to me! I'd string him up!

But honestly, my personal opinion, I say that it should be MANDATORY for ALL U.S. Citizens (NO MATTER WHO DADDY AND MOMMIE ARE) that you have to serve, right out of High School. It should be :

4 years Full Active Duty minimum for Males
2 or 4 years Full Active Duty mimimum for Females.

I am not a Tennessean, I just live here.

OSP is right I know, I was being a smartass because this is a motorcycle forum and if you want something that specific for off topic you should go to a specific forum to meet your need.

Got in cause... really... just seemed like a good idea at the time.

Never regretted it, wouldn't go back if I could.

And the $$ is nice too.

I work in the Executive Protection/Homeland Security world for the top brass of a very large corporation. Yes serving in the Marines helped me get started in this career.

USMC...I knew there was a reason I liked you
