Not sure if this is the right thread, but heres my story...
I'm 24 years old, 6'1" 260lbs. Married with a baby due in May. I live in Milwaukee, WI so its fricken cold this time of year. Been wanting a bike for years, but the wife wasn't feeling it. She finally gave me the green light. Looking for some advice on what to buy. Ive read tons of threads and know enough not to go near a liter bike.
I've never rode a bike before besides as a passenger when I was about 12 or 13. Ive driven ATV's before, I have a stick shift car so I know how to balance clutch and throttle, at least in theory (im sure its different/harder on a bike). Ive got respect for bikes and how badly/quickly you can get hurt, even when doing all the right things. My sister was badly injured on a bike around my 14th year on Earth. Broken neck, bruising on brain, etc. Fine now, but I digress.
Plan is to take the MSF class at a local tech college in Spring. Cost is around 300 bucks and upon completion of the week or so course, I get my M class license without a formal road test at the DMV. Figured I'd learn more at the MSF than on my own anyways. I will not buy a bike until I have completed the MSF as I want to make sure that a)I like riding and B)I think I can be good at it with time. I don't plan on "stunting" or otherwise acting foolish or beyond my abilities. (I know who does, right?)
I was thinking of a used r6s as I like how they look. I was told the sv650 is a great bike to learn on, but Im not really digging it. I dig my life though, so I could probably convince myself. My eyes really like the 600 sport bikes and they are within my price range. Just want to make sure that Im not getting in over my head.
Sorry for the long post
, but I figure a little background on myself can help you guys and gals give me some advice. I totally respect the danger of riding and I will not push past my limits. What would you all recommend for a bike?
