New rider,, basically clueless

I am technically not even a rider yet. I’ve always wanted a motorcycle of any kind-dirt bike, street bike-but my parents had really weird and “traditional” ideas about gender, so my brother got a dirt bike but I did not. I basically put riding out of my head for a long time but now, I really want to start riding.
I will not be using a bike for regular commuting and I don’t intend, at least for a while, to ride on major highways. I don’t want to spend a lot of money on a first motorcycle because, while I’ think I will become addicted, there is a chance that I won’t like it or am just too uncoordinated to do it.

I’ve been considering a Honda Grom, possibly used because I could get one for under $3000. I know I’d probably get sick of it relatively quickly but I don’t know how much riding I’d be doing and it’s not a huge investment.
Aside from what I’ve read about this bike, I am clueless about anything else. I know about the different classes of motorcycles and there are certain styles that I like. Would anyone suggest a different, inexpensive starter bike, for off-highway riding?
