Harleys aren't for me. Not only because of the price, but because I'm not 50, rich, and a lawyer.

You sure have some nice dealers near you then. The one near me is starting the Victory's at mid-twenty's.

The one's I've found on the interweb are also mid-twenties and up. Perhaps there's a base model I don't know about? The Vegas, Hammer and the other's like those are at LEAST mid-twenties and up around here.

The Jackpot and Hammer are the only two I like and they are in the teen's around here too.

Now the Arlen Ness version is in the mid twenty's.

A buddy of mine has a Victory Vegas Jackpot and that bike is B^DA$$. I think he gave in the mid 20's for it but it's worth it. Think about what you'd pay for a Harley like that.

Maybe it's cause Texas love them Harley's and the Victory's have to be priced similar or they won't sell? I ain't lookin to buy one, so, doesn't effect me.

I have a V Star. A couple of things. You have to remove the exhaust to change the oil filter. So if you change pipes-make sure you get split so you only have to remove one. According to the manufacture-The valves need inspected/adjusted every oil change.

Let me know when you are interested. I have an "in" with the local Yamaha dealer.

I like chrome.

Victory gets rotten reviews for build quality and reliability.

The Star looks good.

Despite your aversion to H-D, I must admit I'm taking a shine to the new "Fat Bob" - with the optional mid-mount foot controls. I absolutely loathe the standard feet-forward cruiser ergos.

Understandable. While I get a kick out of the H-D big twins there is the V-Rod alternative. Would note a visit to the V-Rod forum would reveal a bunch of 20, 30, and 40 year olds totally smitten with the thing.

Not a lot of chrome on this NRS. No shaft. One of the lightest and fastest cruisers around. Utterly reliable. Your Star option is a good choice as well.

The headlight shroud on the Night Rod looks like ass IMHO.

I'd have to do something about that immediately. Otherwise the rest of the bike works.

I thiunk if i were to do a crusier it would be either the warrior or the Vrod,
but maybe the Rocket III if i wanted a bike THAT heavy htough who can complain when it has THAT damn much torque.

If you get the warrior skip the straight pipes, its made to look like it has an element of sport to it, just get a Graves or Yosh or something, so it keeps a more aggrewssive sound not a "loss of power its so loud" sound.

The Night Rods like sfarson's are badass!!!!

And the old mentality about HD's falling apart and being unrealiable... old mentality... not even close. The HD's of today are high refined in the sense of reliabilty. I compare it to the jap bikes of today, but with some more heritage.

Serious. I was also looking at the Wide Glide but, again, out of my price range at the moment. Even the Warrior is pushing it.

On the up side, I broke my idea to the wife and got the green light.

True. Most of the other guys in my club (two of whom just went to their first Booze Fighters meeting the other night) own Harleys and they have few problems. One guy only has problems because he sucks at welding (had a headlight fall off two or three times now) and because he replaced his coil-over-shocks with solid metal bars. Between the other two guys, the only problem so far has been crappy service and one leaky head gasket. They're better off than my Honda's been.

I just need for it to be louder than my buddies' 883 and 1200 Sportsters with straight pipes. It's a competition, you see; whoever is loudest has the largest package.
