some EX500 questions for y'all

while I truly wanted to get a little 250, I"ve been offered a 97 EX500 that I could probably get for about a grand.

my questions are, what would a bike like this be worth with 30k miles on the odometer? the seller tells me it has new brakes, tires, chain, air filter, and the bearings repacked up front too. from what I can see in pictures it hasnt been dropped in its lifetime, and it looks pretty nice. although it has a Metzler exhaust instead of that ugly looking two can design they come stock with.

its only in a county or two away from me, so I plan to go look at it in person soon and give it a good lookin over with me own eyes. I havent had the chance to do so yet, but I will shortly. I thought it was a super deal myself.

Its worth a little more if you can get on it and go. (meaning it needs nothing to be rode)

I've think you mean it has Metzler tires. As far as I know, Metzler never made and exhaust for any thing. If it only has one pip, Its defiantly an aftermarket exhaust tho.

I didnt think Metzler sounded right for the exhaust brand, it could be a vance&hines I suspect, but I dont know for sure.

That would be highly likely. V&H are common on bikes of that era.

So I've noticed. my old ZX had the Vance & Hines full exhaust on it, so I'm not too surprised if this one has it too. I like the sound they make, it sounds like a million really mad bees.

It turns out the owner/seller happens to be a mechanic, and the bike is given a clean bill of health. from the looks of things, I'm getting a super deal. clear title, everything is mechanically sound, new tires and all important stuff including the brakes. I'd be hating myself for letting something this nice pass me by. I'm going to try and get the VIN off this bike and get a buddy of mine to run a check on it for me. pays to be smart instead of sorry later for not doing it right?

I dont like the idea of being stuck with a stolen bike or something like that, its cheaper to check the vin now for me.

I think he meant on the exhaust that it was a Muzzy kit, not the Metzler, which is tires I bet. either way, if a Vin check comes through clean, I'm buying it.

When I saw metzler exhaust I was thinking I was thinking an M4 exhaust. I don't know a whole lot about the bike either, but I can look up the value for you.

Edit> Low Retail = $1,325 Average Retail $1,740

Thanks R1 I appreciate it. I'm also looking at a Katana 600 thats slightly cheaper, but debating which I want, I'm thinking the katana will have some extra power, and be nice for when I've got more experience I wont be looking to move up as soon, but the 500 is like new and all that.

Luckily, the bike owner on the EX I want is being real patient, while I get the money together. I just cant wait to get back into ridin. the 500 should make that kinda fun, what with not havin to fix it every time I get on an all.
