'82 LTD440 won't start
I have an '82 LTD440 that belongs to a friend. The odometer has less than 2,000 miles on it, but it has sat outside a lot.
She took it to a shop last July for them to do whatever it needed done.
She just picked it up a week ago, they STILL weren't done with it! They wre trying to figure out what to do about the missing air box cover/air cleaner, since they are no longer available.
They sent us up front while the manager was at the bank and had it running when we got back there. We don't know what they did to get it started. I rode it to my house. It ran okay, but hesitated on acceleration.
Once I got it home, I have been unable to start it. It fires while the starter is going, but the engine dies as soon as I let go of the button.
If I put the choke on, it will start, but is only firing on one cylinder. It won't run very long that way and once I turn off the choke it dies.
I called the shop and they told me it is running lean because of the missing air cleaner and cover.
Unable to find a cover and air cleaner, I installed 2 small air cleaners that I was assured would work.
It still won't start.
I can't find any adjustment screws on the carbs. There is one between the carbs, underneath with a black knob on it. I think it only adjusts the idle speed.
Any ideas what to try? She wants me to get this running and sell it for her. She has lost her enthusiasm for motorcycles over the last year.
FWIW, they told her a couple of months ago that it ran fine and offered to let her hear it.
She doesn't want to deal with the shop any more and doesn't want to put any more money in it.
