WCentral MD, SCentral PA, WV Panhandle Ride

I'm looking to put together a ride on the backroads starting out around Frederick or Hagerstown Md or Gettysburg Pa area (even Hanover would do) sometime in mid to late May, although early June would do (although the !st weekend in June is out; I have booth at the Ride Across Maryland in OC). Probably a two-day event (a Saturday leg and a Sunday leg, for those that could only do one or the other), exploring the twisty roads of PA's state forests up north of Waynesboro in the area, plus a shot through Md wine country, and maybe blitz the switchbacks through Paw-Paw WV.

Memorial weekend is out. I don't do rides on holiday weekends...too many folks get kilt by tired, crabby, distracted or drunk cagers.

I'm going to start putting together a ride agenda and maps; I'm taking suggestions for dates, routes, suggested eating places and staging point(s) that would be convienient to as many as possible.

Warning: My route preferences tend to run towards the tight/twisty/gnarly variety with lots of elevation changes, so if you are looking for a rambling cruise on the Interstate...this ain't it. If you like challenging roads with spectacular scenery we'll have fun. Bring rain gear. ALL SKILL LEVELS WELCOME AND ENCOURAGED.

If enough folks show up, we'll break into smaller groups based on experience and ability; if it's just a few, the pace will be based on the least experienced rider.........everbody learns and has fun, nobody gets left behind, and everybody goes home in one piece.

Let me know if there is any interest/suggestions.

I would love too...and I'd be more inclined if we met in PA somewhere. Sounds like it would be a GREAT time...as I love those kind of roads too.

I trust these will be like minded individuals who dont act like fools on public roads...ie wheelies, stoppies, etc in the middle of the pack.

Like I said; I'm takin' suggestions, so I'm open.

As far as the stunting/showing off thing; I'd like to say that it goes without saying, but I have asked people to leave a ride before........

I dont know South Central PA very well...in fact I've never been down there on my bike. So I can't really help with a route.

But I can find my way to Gburg or Hanover pretty easily. They are both about 45 minutes from my house.

Hmm- that's right about the time I'll actually finish the MSF... And get a bike....

We'll see how it goes, but I'm betting my pace will be real slow

My plan is, depending on level of interest, where most folks are coming from, and weather, to do a Saturday leg from say, Gettysburg, loop through the state forests N of Waynesboro (the Franklin Co one; leave it to PA to have two towns with the same spelling) and down through Catoctin forest and back up through Thurmont;making a 250-300 mile loop. Those folks from the H-Burg area can then have a reasonable ride home.

For those that can stick around for Sunday or can only do the second leg, we would overnight in the Frederick/Hagerstown area and then do a more southern loop through Hedgesville WV, Great Cacapon and down west of Winchester, then back up the backroads to Harpers Ferry. Another 250-300 miles.

Again, this is only at the spitball stage...I'm WAY open to suggestions; but I would like to get a basic route down so I can pre-ride most of it to locate and hopefully avoid busted pavement, construction and tar/chip sections.

ANY SUGGESTIONS ARE WELCOME

Doesn't matter...we ALWAYS have new riders on these and they are ALWAYS welcome; this is NOT a RACE....for me, it'll be the first long ride of the year; a chance to shake out the cobwebs and keep it loose and easy.

Everybody rides their own ride, and NOBODY gets left behind.

Cool! I know a couple nice roads around my area, but not sure you'll be headed that far west. I'm sure I'll find more when I really start looking.

OOOOH YA! I have a place in Deep Creek....am WELL aquainted with the roads in your neck of the woods, 'specially around Pocahontas, Pleasant Union, and the other way towards Casselman and Savage...many nice roads....we'll have to do a summer ride up there....I'm usually up there for a couple of weeks June/July.

Nice! I was thinking about 219 between Salisbury and Meyersdale, and between Garrett and Berlin, and 160 up from Pokey. There must be tons of them I haven't seen yet.

25th through the 28th is the only time im gonna be home that month. I live right outside of hagerstown in mercersburg so I'd be happy to go on a ride around my local area There are alot of really nice places.

We could hit up the mountain house restraunt on the top of the moutain on 30 between ft loudan and mconellsburg. There are some really nice views up there as well. Very biker friendly
