Dead Dragon?

I haven't been up that way much at all, but today after posting a bunch of smileys and saying I was extremely bored, I called my brother and we made a run on the dragon. It was an incredible day outside, clear clear skys, nice and warm, but there was like 4 other bikers and a couple of regular travelers on the dragon tonight. I mean the damn thing was dead. I was going real slow and no one passed me ever we only saw people going the opposite way. Same group of cruisers passed us on the way there and back. A couple of stray cars and trucks, but nothing that looked like it was making a run, just passing through.

Hey jeeps, is it always this dead on monday afternoons into the sunset?

It was like we had the dragon to ourselves to play all we wanted.

45 minutes to an hour and a half depending on how fast you are going. Takes me about 30 minutes but I am just right near maryville.

My bro lives real close to 75/40 and he did it in about 3 hours with stops the other night.

Yeah, you have to hit it. What you do is take the airport exit, which is like exit #375 off of I-75/40 and head towards the airport/alcoa/maryville. Get off at the airport exit which is like exit 10. Take a right and go to the airport. As soon as you go past the airport, you will see signs saying US 129 South. There is some mergers and intersections you have to take turns at, but it's pretty easy to see which way US129 goes. Once at the airport it is like another 40 minutes going around 50mph. It's real easy to get to it.

awesome! I know it will be a busy weekend when I go. I'll be there for the FZ1 Gap Rally June 9th thru the 11th. From my understanding the SV rally is the same weekend.

Awesome! I don't know how we would ever see each other since there will be so many blue SV's there, however there probably won't be too many 03 silver R1's there. I am ALWAYS at crossroads first thing in the morning tho.

LOL yeah bunches of blue SVS, I don't know where I will be or what time I will get there. Considering I live not too far away. I usually just wake up whenever and go. Not as big of a deal for me since I can ride it weekday nights for fun. It's not that much fun for me on weekends when it is crowded out the butt and there is bumper to bumper traffic. Plus I am still really newbie and the type of traffic up there makes me nervous on weekends. I am probably just going to take a ride out to fontana village for the rally and then head back to my side the mountain.

It won't matter where you are that weekend. You will see tons of SV's and FZ's all over the place on the NC, and TN side. I know I will be tearing up the cherahola, and foothills parkway. I may hit the dragon once in the morning, and do a few night runs with all the fog. (Something about that makes it so much excitement and fun)
There was a bicyclist rally at the same time last year which really made everything a PITA! I hope they are not there this year.

They were up there already once this season, I heard about people doing mean things to them when they wouldn't yield to faster vehicles. The cops are going after it big time already this year. They actually had helicopters up there last couple of weekends. They are going after a lot of little ticket items like no mirrors, signal indicators, and wrong placement of license plates.

Night riding is a pain in the a**. Too many freakin bugs. I had to stop and clean my visor the other night. I need some nascar windshield tearoffs for my visor.

My buddy got caught by the helicopter a few years ago for passing on a double yellow line. As of right now my reflectors, signals and plate should be up to par. I doubt they will get me for a Graves fender eliminator.
I don't mind the bugs and fog, however for the past 3 years I have done this weekend FZ1 rally it has poured rain every freakin year. I am expecting it to happen again, but I will go anyway.

I like nice and sunny weekends that have nice and sunny mondays. That means when I go to hit it on a monday, it is completely dead because everyone is tired from going to work and riding all weekend, so I get the place to myself!

I would love for that to happen for me, which it might when I take a week off work and spend the entire week there later on this year. I will make a few weekend retreats, then one full week trip.

I am glad I don't have to risk vacation days like that.

Weekend retreats don't matter since I'm off on weekends, and plus I get 3 weeks of vacation time a year.
