I would go but my bike is not street legal anymore. I get tempted to turn it back into street legal trim, but I don't know if that's such a good idea.
Where in SoCal are you? Have you ridden Angeles Crest?
Its not that there's lots of posers in CA, it's that there's lots of riders period. That means you'll see more posers. If you hit up places like palomar, malibu, Angeles Crest, on the weekends, you'll see hundreds of hardcore canyon riders, those are probably the types of riders you want to hook up with to go on rides.
Not sure if you're familiar with ACH, if you are, you prob already know that there's always riders at the shell in the morning that ride up to Newcombs. Just show up there, introduce yourself and you gots some peeps to ride with. That's what I did. Most riders that meet there are real cool and willing to show you the roads. (as long as you don't come off like a squid LOL) Although I don't ride streets anymore, I still see a lot of those guys on the track, real cool, level headed group of riders. Just make sure you ride your own ride if you go, there's riders there that have been riding those roads for years so everyone's "pace" will differ.
Here's a map view that one of the ACH regulars put together. Too bad there's no way to attach it to view the bigger version. If you want, send me a PM with your e-mail and I'll send you the bigger image so you can better see the streets on the map.
They all meet at the shell station in La Canada, it's pretty much at the base of ACH.
If you decide to go and haven't been there before, please take it easy. Learn the road. It's a sportriders dream, but can also be a nightmare if you don't treat it with respect.
Good luck and have fun wherever you decide to ride!
