helmet question

ok im having an ongoing "discussion" with my girlfriend about helmets....i came over one day and she was holding my helmet and dropped it onto the cement driveway....now i say that although it is still capable of wearing it, i say that the integrity of it is comprimised, meaning it is not 100%...now im just wondering who is right and who is wrong?

Technically it is now "comprimised" but I would still sport it! My first helmet got dropped all the time till I figured out where to leave it and where not to leave it.

if you want a serious answer: the helmet is still safe. there is an internal crush material that can only get compromised if weight was inside it (a head). empty air will not cause any stress. as long as the shell is not cracked, it can still hold up to what it is designed for.

The only thing that can be replaced would be the plastic peice showing. If its scewd up inside then no. Is the vent area at all inside cracked?

It might be available. Most helmet manufactures make and sale replacement parts. Check their web sight and or check with you dealer for replacement parts.

BTW
As long as a lid isn't spider webbed, dented, rashed Ill wear it. Basically, if it has more than a slight chip. Its a paper weight.

Without an actual pic of the damage. I cant decide if the part needs to be replaced. I could sport a lid with a busted vent as long as its not flapping in the wind and makes peeps looking wonder WTF.

From that pic that peice is replaceable. You need to go direct to the manufacture for that or use www.helmetshop.com.

the helmet may look safe and like there is no damage, but manufacturers, snell, and dot all suggest replacing a helmet once it has been dropped and suffered some form of impact. regardless of there being weight inside the helmet or not. why take the chance. if you want, guilt your girlfriend into buying you a new lid.

Modern helmets engineered for one time hit If you value your head buy new helmet. Your dropped helmet is worthless for your head
