Does anyone use the chatterbox system

I have used the chatterbox HJC-90 for a few years now and have up graded a few years ago to a FRS-X2. It is a good system for communicating from bike to bike and rider to passenger, No more slowing down to scream at your buddy to pull into the next gas station. I also have my mp3 player wired into it to take the boredom outta long alone trips(no more talking or singing to myself LOL ).Sometimes I can pick up cell phones ,CB radios, house phones ,construction walkies ,etc .etc. etc Its a good source of entertainment. I love it and am curious what anyone else thinks

I've thought about it but have killed the idea for several reasons.

I normally ride by myself and on the rare occasion I ride with a buddy hand signals work just fine.

Why would I want to talk on the phone while I am riding, I know some people use there bike as a main source of transportation and I am becoming one of them but I don't talk on the phone in my truck unless I have to. Honestly I don't talk on the phone at home unless I have to. Truthfully I don't talk to anyone unless I have to. People annoy me. They all have opinions and they think for some reason I want to hear them. There they all are breathing my air and telling me things I already know....I know it is hot out there it is TX in the middle of summer for cryn out loud, what do you expect?........Yes I know there is nothing like a good cup of coffee in the morning, that is why I am there you flippen moron.........Yes I am on a bike, what gave it away? Could it be the damn helmet sitting next to me and the fact that I am wearing a jacket when it is over 100 outside?....Yes I know motorcycles are enjoyable, thats why I gots one you stinken idiot.........Yes I know smoking is bad for me you fun killing far left wing granola eating inbred stuck up Nazi of a rat bastard. It says so on every pack I buy, every billboard that advertises, and I am bombarded with that fact via TV, radio, and magazines. But thanks for telling me now go stick your **** in your cup of coffee and leave me the hell alone. Your breathing my air that I am perfuming with my smoke. (sorry for the )

There are times when I think tunes might be nice but I can use a mp3 player and not drop the money on the chatter box.

And finally I am too stinken cheep.

I would get one if I knew more people that had one. I am wanting the group I ride with to get them because of the increased cop presence.

Ok firstly the misunderstanding is I dont talk on the phone w/my c/box while I'm riding, I pick up interfierance with it from other peoples phone conversations (Thats the good entertainment)or the other stuff I listed .But I do listen to the mp3 on it which is mounted to the c/box by velcro and one small audio wire from the mp3 to the c/box.No wires going everywhere,Unless my wife is on board, then there is the one pain in the arse wire from my helmet to hers.( But hey isnt it a small price to pay to be able to listen to her tell you to slow down ,turn here , are we there yet, watch out for that guy )LOL Seriously my wife is a great passenger

nah it aint built into mine. I've just read were the CB has bluetooth capabilities now. I dont even own one, usually ride alone unless up at the dragon.

The Speed is a ok helmet for its price, a bit noisy but mine fell off my mirror once so I'm thinking of getting a rf1000.

Im in the market for a new lid ,mine is an Agv rossi replica about 5-6 years old and noisy as hell
I like the skull look on a few different models Icon Kbc Afx, but I really want a quiet helmet in the end no matter what graffix are on it.

I may purchase a system so the wife and I can talk when we're out riding like yesterday in the NC mountains. I don't care about the bluetooth...mp3...ipod...etc. functions...just communicating with her while we're out riding would be cool.

When you pick up other people's phone conversations, is it safe to assume that anything you say at the time could be picked up by them? Now THAT would be entertaining.

I use to always run a chatterbox on eht rocket. It was awesome for the 2 up riding with the wife, great for music when by myself and good for group rides.... especially between the head and tail of the group. But if you don't get the microphones install correctly they can pick up alot of wind noise.

I've had a chatterbox (FRS) for two years now. The first year I had it mounted on my helmet. It worked okay but wasn't as functional as I'd like. So, this year I mounted it on my handlebars. It is so much more useful there and I only have to deal with one wire coming to my helmet now. I almost always have my MP3 player hooked up (which is also a satellite radio); Gives me something to sing along to on those longer trips. And, with the volume control right in front of me I never have to worry about it being too loud and not hearing my surroundings because I can easily adjust for any riding situation.

My only gripe with the FRS is I can't plug my cell into it. I don't plan on having real extended conversations while riding, but it woudl be nice to be able to answer the phone and see what someone wants, or where we're meeting up. I'd also like the phone capability for calling and asking directions (I don't have a GPS yet), or just to make a quick call saying, "I'm on my way home." I've been meaning to upgrade my chatterbox so I can use my phone too, but I wanted to wait until the bluetooth version was released (June 2007) and now it's a matter of funding.

with the bluetooth version(no wires), can you mount it to the bike and just have a small ear piece and mic inside the helmet, instead of hanging that big box off the side of your dome?

The Blue Tooth Version

As I understand it, the chatterbox unit itself is the same and it must be mounted to helmet, handlebars, or sit in a tank bag. However, your blue tooth enabled cell phone and blue tooth audio device do not have to be connected with wires to the chatterbox unit. This only leaves the headset wires. In the end, the price might not be worth it for me since I mount on the handlebars and keep my electronics in a tank bag. Right now the only wire I deal with is the headset.
