christmas.....

ok so i'm planning on buying my bike in feb. so in the mean time, i'm looking for gear, i'm trying to make a list for the wifey, my b-day is this month, and also x-mas is coming up. i'm looking for at least a good helmet, gloves, boots, pants and jacket will probably wait, i'm in the process of losing some major weight, so i'm putting off pants and jacket til i get further along to see what fits.

helmets i'm thinking..... shoei rf-1000, icon domian, scorpion exo 700(or 1000), kbc.

boots i'm thinking icon super duty chukkas, ( i like the casual look of em, but i feel protected better than timberlands or tennis shoes.)
gloves i really haven't decided. heard good things about alpinestar. or icon.

when i decide on a jacket it will probably be icon or alpinestar.
and pants will probably be denim.
any recommendations? and what would your list include?

if I could do it all again I'd go with a Scorpion helmet... I tried on my little bro's the other day... felt 1000x better than my Arai. and it's 1/3 the price!

I liked the looks of Icon stuff but didn't like the feel... especially the boots... dunno why... but I ended up trying on some A* SMX4 boots.. (far from the casual look) damn the only shoes I have this comfortable are all running shoes! seriously... you might look into them.

if I was going to just wear denim jeans I'd have some that were specificly designed for riding... Icon, dragon, A*, several others make... nice casual look but re-enforced for the fall... again

anyways... good luck and post up some pics of what ever you decide on and get.

i tried on a rf1000 yesterday. will have to try the scorpion. i like thtem. and heard good reviews also.
and yes pants will be made for riding. but i prefer denim to leather.( i might feel different after losing some weight lol) and i like my pants loose fitting. can't stand tight pants. and will post pics as soon as i get them.

DUnno if you can find one, but Vemar helmets rock. I picked one up for $100 on closeout, trackside, and love it. Mudpuppy got one too, and we both still agree it is the best bike gear purchases we have made.

Helmet - Try them on and buy what fits best... HJC fits me best of any I tried.

Boots - I'd want something with more ankle support. Check out the Field Armor Boots... They are comfortable to walk around it, don't look too crazy, and I've crash tested them.

Gloves - If you're like me, it's going to be hard to find gloves that fit you. I have wide hands and short skinny fingers. I always have an extra 1/4" or so at the ends of the fingers. A* SMX Air-2 Carbons are the best fitting gloves I have ever found (my entire life). The A* GP Plus gloves I have now fit ok, but still have the extra in the fingers problem. Try on the ones you like the look of the best and go from there. Recognize though that pretty much all gloves are going to be uncomfortable until broken in, so you're just looking for fit.

Jackets - Meshies are good for hot weather, but don't hold up the best in crashes. Textile is more durable, but is also hotter. Leather is best and from what I understand, perforated leather is reasonably cool.

Pants - Demin sucks. If you go that route, buy overpants. You get armor and much better abrasion resistance...

My gear list includes: Alpinestars GP Plus gloves, Icon Field Armor Boots, Knox Ricochet back protector, FirstGear V Mesh jacket, FirstGear Tex Mesh pants, and HJC AC-12 helmet.

helmet--- my next one is going to be a Scorpion exo 700
read great things about them and great bang for the buck

jacket----newenough has this on closeout;
http://www.newenough.com/closeouts/b...le_jacket.html

gloves---- i have MotoGP RPMs, love 'em

boots-----i would go with any bike specific boot with good ankle protection
i've got SetUp Visions, don't personally like the Icon boots
they look too heavy and bulky for my taste.

pants-----leather recommended, but it you must wear jeans get bike
specific ones, i recommend Sliders jeans. i have 'em and
think they are great.
http://www.compacc.com/prod.cfm/cid/1001002/pid/9096

armor----- spine protector( that's just me, i wear my Icon field armor vest
everytime i ride)
and if you just wanna wear just jeans, get some knee/shin guards.

that's all i got.

I've heard some bad things about KBC helmets so if you're looking into it, I'd definitely recommend trying it on. I have a Scorpion helmet which I love, and it didn't break the bank.

As far as boots go, I don't know much about Icon boots but I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't as nice as they seem. Sidi boots are liked by many, they make some more casual ones also without sacrificing safety.

Draggin Jeans makes pretty good reinforced jeans, I'd check them out. One thing to be aware of when looking at reinforced jeans is that many companies don't reinforce them in many places. I think Icons jeans are only reinforced in the knees for instance, where as Draggin's have more protection.

I don't suffer from insanity. I enjoy every minute of it.

I must say again, jeans suck.

Iron Pony has textile overpants on closeout for $40... armor sold separately.

General rule of thumb is that Icon is more about looks than protection. Any gear is better than no gear, but for my money I'd buy some other brand.

I said general rule of thumb, Im sure they make some nice stuff that protects well. I almost bought some of those myself, until Marko hooked me up with his old boots.

So that means the assless chaps = black. Not the pants.

All chaps are assless... otherwise they'd be pants.
