TomTom One GPS $149.99 *New* at Dunham Sports

Well, today I got an awesome deal on a portable GPS unit that I am going to mount on my bike. I bought the TomTom One GPS Unit At Dunham Sports. They have them brand new on special for $149.99. They normally sell for $249.99 - $299.99.

If anyone is looking for an inexpensive color GPS with all preloaded maps for USA/Canada then this is the ultimate deal. It is a really nice , compact unit and you should grab one quick before they run out.
I have never seen one this cheap. You can't find one anywhere for this price either online or in a store. The price is only in the store, not online.

Just thought I would let everyone know. It also would make a great Xmas present for someone too.

Nope. They are all preloaded with the maps. There is no service required. The software and maps are upgradable too if there have been changes to the maps down the road.

almost all portable GPS systems do not require a monthly subscription/ service.
sounds like a good deal
whats the difference between an active and passive GPS?

from wikipedia:
Quote:
Following the shootdown of Korean Air Lines Flight 007 in 1983, President Ronald Reagan issued a directive making the system available for free for civilian use as a common good.[3] Since then, GPS has become a widely used aid to navigation worldwide, and a useful tool for map-making, land surveying, commerce, and scientific uses. GPS also provides a precise time reference used in many applications including scientific study of earthquakes, and synchronization of telecommunications networks.

the only thing that you have to pay for as far as "service" is the updated maps/points of interests database.

That is a really good deal. I have a TomTom GO 700 which is close to the same but bigger and bulkier that I bought a couple of years ago and paid more.

I've used it several times and it works like a champ.

The only time you need a subscription for those is if you want it to inform you of upcoming traffic jams and such.

Co worker jsut got a sweet Garmin. Color display, touch screen, and the best part is... its lists all bussinesses, their location, and phone number. It is awesome and seems to be way nicer than my parents tom tom

We've got Garmin's in all our work vehicles that do the same. They are pretty nice.
