Daily Riding Boots

Hi was wondering what the best boots or shoes are for daily riding. Never going to the track but want some good protection and not super uncomfortable for walking around in. Going to be riding my new bike to work everyday maybe take a backpack with change of shoes and pants. But really want some shoes I can walk around with and give good protection while riding.

I got these:

Comfortable for walking, warm if you wear heavy socks. I think I paid $150 for them. Good quality for the money.

I had some icons (yeah I know squidwear) that were comfortable and held up surprisingly well to an accident, though were eventually lost to fire. I'm probably going to buy some Icon Superduty 2s after as well as my last pair held up. It just seems really hard to find good motorcycle boots that aren't either styled like combat boots or styled out of 1950s England.

Hiking Or Construction Boots Okay?

I ride a scooter and it's very tempting to wear running shoes or even, dare I say, flip flops / sandals on hot days. Don't worry, I have not and will not.

But I do wear (cooler days) hiking boot with coverage over the ankles. and now, for the summer, I bought a pair of high cut hiking style running shoes.

I do some highway riding but most of my commute is through city streets.

I'm I really risking anything? Or better question, what do I gain by wearing an actual motorcycling boot?

Thanks.
