Getting a wheel straightened

Has anyone had this done? I'm looking at getting a wheel off eBay but it has a ding and I want to know how much trueing it would cost/where to have it done. Any thoughts?

Hopefully you can get some good info from here. Then you can add the price to fix and the price you paid and compare it to a new or a good conditioned used wheel.

I would go with a non-dinged wheel if at all possible. I've never done it either and I wouldn't want to. I dont think you can get it absolutely straight.

I'd be afraid of a refurbed wheel... Microscopic imperfections, metal fatigue, and inability to get it perfect are things that pop into my mind when I hear of getting a wheel repaired...

I'd worry about the metal fatigue in the area worked.

good points all around! thx guys, I'm just afraid that I'm getting too good at this being patient for parts thing (see my chain thread) so I was trying to rush this one. Oh well, hopefully good wheels come to those that wait.

Is this a F3 wheel, if it is for that mod don't do it. Wait for a straight one.

Nah, it's a SRAD/TLR front for the fork swap.

Be prepared to do a lot of tweaking for the fork swap. You will lose high speed stability and it will be twitchy.

Really? From what I've read the 1st gen swap isn't too bad if you use an SRAD front end with '00-03 forks. Can you point me toward this info? I don't want a twitchy/unstable bike...

It's a geometry thing, the front ends are different. You are going to have to dial it in and people have had troubles getting it to where it should be. Just search SVrider.

Well, now that Shan's aware of it, it might get fixed...

But I got up to 179 last night before it broke... when do I get three bars?
